I just want to say it's official, I'm going into xstr8guy withdrawl. My best bud's been on a road trip and I haven't had a good chat in ages. I miss him.

Maybe he went to see Madonna's big, humongous show this weekend at the MGM Grand.

My neighbors across the hall, who own Astro the cat, returned today from their Memorial weekend vacation very much dazzled.

I'm back and we had a blast on our road trip to Tucson, Phoenix and Mexico... and then back again.

Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) Mexico is a trip! It is located at the top of the Sea of Cortez and is only a few hours drive from Phoenix, but it's like another world. You cross the border into utter poverty and drive through the dirtiest mountain valley desert covered in broken glass, trash and dead cows. Then huge sand dunes come into view and you know you are near. Major resort and condo construction is bursting out of the ground everywhere along the coast except where the old town is located. It isn't Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, etc. yet but give it a few more years.

We stayed in a big beatiful new condo over-looking the sea. If I had the money right now... that would be my next purchase. We had the freshest shrimp on the point (old town) and I picked myself up some over-the-counter Xanax and Sauza Tres Generaciones Tequila at half price. We drank margaritas and laid in the sun for three days and on our last night we went and saw Roger Clyne (formerly of The Refreshments) and the Peacemakers play in a dirt parking lot to an enthusiastic crowd (or so I've heard).

Roger has become the young boomer's/old gen Xer's version of Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy Buffet is to the polished Florida Keys what Roger Clyne is to raw and dirty Mexico. This was the 3rd time I've seen them this year. But unfortunately Xanax and Margaritas don't mix so well, . Thankfully my sister and partner took good care of me and didn't let me die in a grimy mexican alley. The entire evening is lost to my memory... lesson learned.

On the way back home to Dallas, we spent the better part of the week in Tucson for various reasons... some embarassing and private and some because of the sheer beauty of the desert. We stayed at the Hilton El Conquistador resort which was an oasis in the desert for people and wildlife. Everytime we looked out our glass door, we saw lizards, rabbits, desert partridges and birds of many varieties. It had a golf course (yuck) and multiple pools (yum). But as the days went on we spent less time at the resort and more time hiking in the desert mountains... NUDE!

According to the local guys we met, Upper Tanque Verde is a semi-official nude hiking area. Unfortunately we missed peak season. During the early spring and monsoon season, waterfalls, rivers and pools of water are common as are naked men using the mountain trails as their very own bathouse. Even though the temp was in the high 90's, the breezes were cool and the smooth rocks were just warm enough to be comfortable on a bare butt. Unfortunately we were too late to see the waterfalls but we did run into a few naked men.

Ah, the Venture 'N... a nasty old-fashioned gay bar that you might have seen in the 70's... we had some good times there! Apparently out-of-town daddies are very popular and welcomed.

And on our last night in Tucson, we met another daddy couple that brought us back to their own personal desert oasis. Those lucky studs had 6 acres in the Oro Valley and on those six acres they had a beautiful home and pool and spa surround by palm trees worthy of the Hilton. We spent the entire night, 4 men in a big bed... um... er... not sleeping until the sunrise. Which made driving the next day quite difficult. Lucky for us, we have an open invitation to stay at their place anytime we go to Tucson for a visit.

    I'm counting the days.

If it wasn't for the house and dogs, I'm not sure I would have ever returned to the hell-hole of Dallas. I miss the desert air... this humidity is awful.

But thanks all! I missed you too. I will never leave home without a laptop again. I just need to get a new one. My old one sucks so bad. Any suggestions? I'm looking at smaller screens this time around but good processing power and HD storage.

If you use a PC, the Sony VAIO is the way to go. Small screenage with ample power. They fuckin' ROCK. Just got a 13" model myself. I LOVE it!

I was looking at those yesterday at Fry's and they are damned sexy. The Sony's seem to be a lot sleeker and thinner than other brands. But I hope Sony has improved since my last laptop.

I have a Sony GRV-something-something from a few years ago and the battery lasted like 10 minutes after the first 6 months and it got so frickin' hot the computer would seize up. I swore that I would never get another Sony laptop but they sure are looking good to me right now.

What model do you have Ken?

Glad to hear you're home safe and sound, but I'm not sure you'd of gotten me back from all that fun either! Sounds like you had a fantastic time for the most part!
