    Need Sites to Review

    Howdy, folks,

With the August issue of AVN Online, you will see almost a brand new magazine. We are completely redesigning and relaunching the book with more focused, shorter pieces about business trends and tips, with less of a focus on individual personalities.

We've dropped several of our sections and added new ones, and even changed the logo. FINALLY! (God, how I hated that old logo!)

Anyway, we are going to have a brand new review section, with tons more reviews packed into each issue. So that means I'm going to need tons more sites to review.

If anyone would like to submit your sites to me, please do so via my work email, kenknox@avnonline.com with the subject heading "Site Review Request."

Thanx, and I look forward to reviewing your sites.

    Ken

    Ken,

    Stupid question but...

Why is a magazine aimed at webmasters wanting to review sites aimed at surfers are you hoping to get signups to the paysites you review or something?

    Regards,

    Lee

lee got there a second ahead of me.

the point of reviews to surfers is either to inform or to market. what is the point of offering site reviews to webmasters?

There are no stupid questions, Lee. (Well, OK, that's not true, but your question wasn't stupid.)

It's a way of introducing OTHER webmasters to those sites.

Just as ANB, our novelty publication, reviews adult toys so that store owners know what to stock--or as AVN and GAYVN review films so that video store owners know which movies to offer--reviewing websites will (hopefully) help other webmasters in choosing which programs to promote.

    Right?

    er... maybe sometimes.

honestly most of the webmasters i know either

    1. only care about payout
    2. only care about the webmaster site, not the sites themselves
    3. only promote sites where they can see the member area and generally have already seen the member areas that intest them.

then there's the question of whether you, as a non webmaster, know what features or sizes would make us promote a site. i'm not trying to be confrontational - you are a great writer. do you know what webmasters or surfers are looking for in a site?

If you ask me (and you didn't) I think it could work if:

You took each issue and did a niche.

If you could see my bookmarks of "interesting sites to market". That's just the beginning. If its a paysite with recuring, it involves asking for a pw. But if I saw say 20 Asian site reviews. Quickies. honest. It would save me a lot of time. It's easy for me to check payout, trial price, but to ask a webmaster for a pw that I amy want to market and wait for it, is a bitch. But if AVN just said a site I am thinking of marketing has 20 photosets and that's it. It save me a lot of time.

I actually don't set the rules in terms of how the reviews will appear. I just kinda do what they tell me. You know, that paycheck and all is pretty much all the incentive I need.

No worries, Patti. I don't get peeved off when people are direct and upfront. It's what I prefer. And I'm quite confident enough in my writing skills that I don't get offended when others criticize it. That's why when someone accuses me of being an amateur who only writes fluff, I just shrug it off and say, "Oh well," and call it a day with a big smile on my face, 'cuz I might be writing fluff, but I'm making a living off that fluff and haven't had to work a crappy day job in years to support what I love to do the most, so as far as I'm concerned, it's all good.

You make a good point. I don't know this business inside and out yet; I'm still a relative newbie, but I think I have a pretty good handle on things from my perspective. Besides, the reviews are pretty short. We're not going all out on them, but it's a quick and easy way to spotlight some companies that we come across (sometimes literally, haha) and others that are recommended to us, hence this posting.

Guess you'll just have to wait and find out when the magazine hits the stands, huh?
