    PR Ratings on google

Does anyone know or has anyone ever seen a reference to what decides a site's PR rating with respect to the number of sites pointing to it, etc?

    i.e. 1-10 a PR 1
    11-50 a PR 2...and so on?

I'd be curious to know as some really big gay sites seem to be stuck at PR 5...just wondering what it takes to get to PR 6.

Page Rank (PR) is determined by several factors, that seem to change with each algo change. However the rule of thumb or concensus seems to be that PR is derived from not just how many links there are coming in to the site, but also what quality they are. In short a 100 PR1 links versus 50 PR2 links etc.

It also is based on how many are one way links, being how many are not being returned by you to the incoming site.

Also how many of those incoming links are related to the content as well as to the owner. Yes, Google does check that so if you have 100 sites pointing to your one main site its value is diminished.

THe text as well effects PR in respect to the anchor link. If they all used the same basic anchor link text, odds are it too will be depreciated as Google will see that as a possible link trade, something they do not like.

short, yet very crisp and to the point

I heard that going over a PR5 is hard to do - you need some certain things fullfilled: e.g. number of incoming links, number of high PR links, overall count of sites on your domain ... something like this... Again - thats what I heared

    No.

I was pr 5 for maybe a month. Now 4. Even justusboys is a 4.

I think it has to do with the length of time as well.

I know my problem was my iternal pages had over 100 outgoing links.

    Interesting about out.com

Our site maledirectory.com has been at PR5 for about a year. I know we don't get near the traffic gay.com does and they are a 5 also. I have never seen a gay adult site go over PR5 but there are a lot of straight adult sites that have higher then a PR5. It's discrimination!

Some gay sites are above a 5, start looking, and there is a trend that they SEEM to share.

    Very interesting.

Even Men On The Net is a 4 i believe. They have been around forever.

Another thing that affects your PR - is how long you have purchased your domain registration name for. Renewing yearly isn't as good as renewing in 5 or 10 year batches.

You can read Google's explanantion about this. PR is relatively simple, there's a formula for it, and it's not affected by whether your links are one-way or reciprocal. Neither is it affected by how long you have had your domain registered for. Those things may or may not effect your rankings in the search results, but they do not effect your PageRank.

The only thing that effects your PageRank is the number of links pointing to your page and their voting power. The higher the PageRank of the page that links to you, and the fewer sites it is pointing to, the higher your PageRank will end up being.

For example, if you have a link from a PR4 page, that's better than a link from a PR3 page. However, if that PR4 page has 500 outgoing links on it, then it's "voting" power is weakened. It's only sending you 1/500 of that PR4 that it has. The PR3 page could be worth more if your link is the only outgoing link on it.

Bear in mind that what you see on the toolbar is just a snapshot of PR taken at some point in time. Also, PageRank does not mean more traffic. Traffic comes form a higher ranking in the search results - a totally and utterly different thing.
