Has anyone here moved across the country?

I have to move in late August and I'm seriously thinking of leaving new england and moving to southern california, either san diego or palm springs (not sure yet).
Part of me is very excited about it but I'm also scared to death of it.
Ive been to two cities in southern california and I loved it. I made some nice friends in both places.

I was just wondering if anyone here has moved far away and if you were nervous about it and how it turned out for you.

I moved for Plano TX "Dallas" to Long Beach Ca. and soon will move from LB Long Beach to Ft Lauderdale, not sure you could move farther than my next move. I love being on the road its a let down to get where I am going, what are you worried about other than SD being one of the most expensive places in the US and having to get used to a lower standard of living?

If I was you I would move to Plano or the North Dallas area, or maybe Ft Lauderdale like me, but to tell the truth I have never been to Ft Lauderdale yet but it has the best gay club in the US and Dallas has the 2nd best. Nothing in Ca is even in the top 10 or so, Tiger Heat is the best club in LA/Hollywood and only open on thus nights for like 5 hours. Other than that the clubs are smaller than my old apartment, and are rather boring, but not sure how bad it is in NE http://www.clubtigerheat.com/

No I just have a fear of failure and that its all going to fall apart.
Even though Im super anal about finances and always plan months ahead on bills, I just worry about it to make sure its all set.
Maybe once I his California Ill chill out a bit.

Why are you leaving California and going to Florida?

you really should visit the city before you move there, in my opinion. Although Fort Lauderdale is gorgeous.
I hope youre not moving there over a gay club

If you make your money online it should not matter where you live, but I would really look at Plano, Dallas, or Ft Lauderdale man.

I am to spoiled to live in CA. if things really suck where you are from I am sure you will like it. For me its like a big step down, like for instance I use this one allot cuzz it still freaks me out. If you know what Chills is they have valet parking in CA LOL or if ya want to eat at Long John Slivers its like a 30 min drive and I live in downtown LB. I use to go to a movie grill you could get dinner from waiters ECT while you watched the movie “like in a theater” in CA that’s something only the super rich can do if they have that at all. The clubs suck, it socialist “only one phone company 1 electric company ECT” It too cold for me, you can not really go swimming at all OMG I could go on for days LOL

I have not been to Fl Lauderdale yet but its a big party town like Ca was in the 70s BTW the 70s was the last time they built anything new out here.

Well the clubs, fishing, weather, swimming, food “OMG if I do not get some real food soon I am going to die” stander of living I can get a place on the beach in Ft Lauderdale 3x as big as I have here and really use my pool table ECT and since of adventure I have not been their yet and the move from sea to sea will be fun.

Hell don’t trust me just do a apartment search for SD, Hollywood, Long Beach then do one for Ft Lauderdale, Plano or North Dallas and you tell me where you should live. Ca is really good if your a pretentious ass that likes to drink 10$ cups of coffee and look around though a bunch of crappy mom and pop shops. But if your under 50 its not so cool.

BTW if you have to move to CA I would move to Huntington Beach or Laguna Beach

Well if you have friends there and a job lined up, why not?

And you are looking at California, so also make sure you can afford its rich cost of living. But then, places like San Diego are Paradise.

Remember the rules about Max... so, for anyone else, if you want to live somewhere because it's cheap, there are lots of better places than Ft. Lauderdale. The charm will most likely wear off a bit after a couple of hurricanes, insanely humid/oppressive summer heat, and a bunch of coked-out, methed-up gay bois at the wonderful clubs there.

Marc, I've relocated across the country several times. Yes, it's always a lil scary, but I've never had a bad experience out of it. Get to meet lots of interesting new people, experience a new climate/community, and in general, I've found it very positive. I've moved from big city to tiny one, tiny city to bigger one... Given a choice between San Diego and LA, I'd consider north San Diego (La Jolla area) but less so further south. But honestly, there are nice peeps and nice places practically everywhere, so it's just where you feel at home (at least for me.)

fort lauderdale is expensive, esp downtown

if you want to live in a nice neighborhood that is

I wouldn't buy a property right now in the area, prices are falling here and speculators have flooded the market trying to get rid of properties

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Hehe and we're just the opposite of that, in the Daytona area, prices are actually hitting an all time high and most homes are even over-valued by up to 47%!

The good thing is, people are still buying their new and second homes by the beach

    Regards,

    Lee

Thats great to read, I think it will be very positive too. I moved to Chicago years ago with 2 suitcases and a credit card and thats it and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
But this time I dont have a safety net behind me. It'll probably be good for me.
If i move to San Diego it will definetely be Hillcrest, thats the only area I know and I loved it. Plus itll save me a lot of money from having to buy a car because you dont need one in Hillcrest.

Is it really that hot? I went in October so I dont know.
Everyone says its "dry heat" and someone told me that when its 120 in dry heat it feels like 90 in the humidity, which is bearable to me.
I loved palm springs though. The heat in the summer is my only concern.
