    Ad Sense Destroying The Internet

I have been doing a lot with ad sense lately and on one board came across this post,

"I bring it up only because I occasionally entertain the thought that Google has, in fact, destroyed the Internet. Well, not the physical Internet, mind you. Just the whole "looking for data" part of it that's key to Google's (alleged) information-based mission. The part that's held the key (so far) to its financial success.

Any of you try searching lately? Notice the astounding lack of quality across the board, even at revamped competitors like Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) and IAC/InterActiveCorp's (Nasdaq: IACI) Ask.com? I feel your pain. I, too, have spent hours stuck in the revolving door of link farms, splogs, and scraper sites. These sites look like they contain content, but when you see the results page, often it's not there (because of tricks like keyword stuffing and cloaking). If it is there, it's often recycled material from other providers, compiled by an automated process.

The jokers who create these sites have one goal: Trying to get you to click on a Google AdSense link.

Of course, such sites run contrary to Google's terms of service, but that hasn't stopped zillions of them from popping up. In fact, a search on "adsense ready web site" will give you a glimpse of the often-sleazy, bigger-than-a-cottage, scraper-site industry that's sprung up to try to capitalize on the phenomenon."

    What do you all think?

Why would somebody want to pay for traffic they can get for free ?

People are just spamming the SEs ... SE spam has always been there.

    I agree

I'm sick of adsense page after adsense page being at the top of search results

It used to be SEO to get you to a particular site

Now it's SEO to get you stuck in an infinity of adsense optimized link sites that all connect to eachother

A new disease for Googles algorithms to weed out next update, or the update after

ah - made for adsense sites - you can thank all the e-book marketers out there for starting that craze.

But this won't last long, either Google will crack down on these sites/publishers.
Considering the lengths some people go to increase their clicks advertisers must not be happy at all.

My bf's company spends $95,000 a month on adwords/adsense and from what he told me, their marketing department is pretty miffed at getting useless clicks from adsense sites

recently someone blogged about someoen who created a network of about 3 billion pages who's sole purpose is Adsense. Often times these people's domains were in the first 10-15 results of the searches.

Not long after some bloggers reported Google removing something like 5 billion pages from several adsense spam domains

Adsense should make a clear and easy to use "report site" button for reporting sites that clearly do not operate according to their TOS.

I've come across sites that had nothing but adsense + yahoo text ads on them, and I found them by clicking on an adsense ad in my gmail...

Strange I never thought of this until you brought it up but after thinking about it you are so right. There is so many different feeder sites with AdSense it is just ridiculous. Really those sites shouldn't be on Google's first couple of pages. The click fraud is still really bad too. Google defintely has some things to improve.

I really believe the time will come when those making a living of adsense may jump into (or back into) porn. Grrrrrr...

I actually did go to the trouble of reporting a bunch of porn sites that were totally not matches for the keywords entered, just cleverly constructed gateway pages that were designed to attract traffic.

A month later, the same pages were still up there.

So much for Google's interest in honest data reporting.

Ok I don't get it ... you guys are saying people are doing SEO trying to get bullshit sites listed in the search engine to increase their clickthrough ratio ?

If they have the SE traffic, why do they need the adsence traffic ?

Unless it's easier to get a bullshit page listed... wich I guess is the case

It's called Adsense Arbitrage or PPC Arbitrage or just Arbitrage.

They also don't care if their ads are on sites with stolen content.

You buy adsense to your site. At a low price and then get them to click ad sense and make money. It's hard to explain. And I am too tired.....

But i thought Ad Sense was not allowed on sites with mature or adult content...

How can there be adsense on porn sites?

    You mean someone overlooked something?
