    Hoooorraayy, it's Taxpayers Day....

    The news is out

today is a holiday here in Germany I want to share with y'all - maybe some of you find time to celebrate with me..

    Its.. *drums* TAXPAYER's DAY.

From today on until the end of the year we Germans work for our own good - not for taxes. Now ain't that great news, ey?

In 2006 we work roughly 51.02% for taxes and social securities like unemployment, helth, retirement and such. So they calculated the exact date to July 5th, 05:35 a.m. German time

A while ago "Taxpayer Day" was a little earlier - 1991 it was on June, 30th and in 1960 even 1st of June.

In 2000 Taxpayer day was at 56,3% of the year - that was the latest ever. Since then the burdon on us dropped 5.3%

We have some more to celebrate: the big coalition here is about to make way for a warmer holiday by shifting the Taxpayer Day further back thus rising our taxes & social contributions.

    woohoooooooo *running around naked*

That is somewhat of a neat idea.

So, prior to today, when somebody on the street asked you for money, in essense you could tell them that you were on your way to work to help pay for them, or "I already gave at the office".

    Yeah

    Ours is June 16th:

However, July 1 we had a reduction in GST aka VAT or federal sales tax.

    Which was/is great also.

the DW had a good documentary on taxes in Germany and it was crazy
This VAT tax in Europe stinks, anything you buy you have to add like 19% to it, it's insane.

From the DW report it looked like any lazy ass who doesn't want to work can get sent a weekly check from the gov't

That is what socialist (aka cradle-to-grave) societies are best known for --- a lot of social programs & sky-high taxes!

Heck, if I were living in Europe, I would try my hardest to be the biggest JUNKIE around!
