How do you guys clean your keyboard and mouse?

Lee's cleaning thread made me think of it, .

I cant imagine how dirty a keyboard must get from constant use, touching, and the mouse too.
I have purell on my desk that I use often, but I dont wipe any on my equipment.

What do you use to clean your equipment off with?
I want to go buy something today.

I usually bang and shake it a little for the crums to fall out.

A little gentle hoovering is also good - just be carefull so that no keys get sucked (unlike my last corporat laptop - never told my boss how that happened)

if it is an OLD keyboard you might want to try the dishwasher - just don't add any chemicals to it - plain water and let it run. no it most properly won't hurt the keyboard since the only metal parts should be the springs in the key itself (if they are not plastic anyways)

During my aprenticeship we took apart laser printers and dish washed them no kidding!

Hahaha for some reason, the first thing that came to mind when i read that was that lawsuit from a year or two back that Larry Flint (i think?) got served about the woman who complained of sexual harrasment because LFP was washing sex toys in the office dishwashing machine LOL

    Regards,

    Lee

if you REALLY want to clean your germ-covered working tools get new ones... I buy myself a new mouse & keyboard once a year, vacuum it every month and wipe the handrest about each week and shake and bang it ever other day or so.

Although I am not a hypochondriac, I am however somewhat of a clean freak, especially when it comes to the office and the equipment. The others here do NOT clean, AT ALL, so I am the one that vacuums etc.

I use strong cleaning liquids at the office, such as bleach and ammonia, and white vinegar at home.

After turning over my keyboard and giving it a thorough shake, I use the brush (for the vacuum) on my keyboard.
Next, I completely soak my keyboard and mouse with bleach (in a spray bottle) and let it work, while I do my monitor (with glass cleaner).
I also wash my desktop, at the very least once a week, because I do not like dirty knees ... uh, elbows.

I wash-up after each meal, to help keep the tools clean.

I've got a datavac with keyboard wand, some cleaning solution by perfectdata, q-tips, microfibre cleaning clothes and a few other things.

And as my mouse is an optical mouse there's less things to worry about cleaning there.

    can you spot it?

I thought it would be the last used key - it was the "<" and ">" key and I hacked away HTML pages at work - talk about crap.

I vacuumed it with an idustrial cleaning lady vacuum and then it went KRACK and i heared it rattle through the tube - after opening the sack and searching though the dust I did not find it ... my colleagues laughed cuz something like this always happens to me

    what is a T F T?
    that floppy thing?
    that flaccid tool?
    that fat tubesteak?

I smoked plastic for many years ... oh shoot, I mean, I worked with plastics (kit cars, car part etc) for close to one decade.
You are correct (harsh chemicals will ruin many types of plastic), but I need not worry about that here (at the office) - it's a CRT.

Keep the room dark - you won't notice the dirt.

I had a trackball keyboard for years at my old job and it drove me nuts. Those things always clog up.
