    When Registering A Domain Name...

How do the rest of you choose a suitable one for the site you are going to be building?

Do you choose a domain for the niche you will be using or, do you choose the niche by the domain name?

Also, do you think there is an optimal amount of characters in the domains you register? For example, generally speaking, when i register domains i like to keep them as short as possible and, preferably below 15 characters in length.

Do you even think it matters overall when choosing domains about the length of them?

    Regards,

    Lee

i try to either keep them short or else i use a phrase that makes sense and makes sense for the site. and i try to find at least ten domains within the niche before deciding.

of course tools like the overture search tool and thesaurus.com are useful.

also i never buy domains with stuff like planet, island or town - or any gratuitous word that doesn't relate to the niche like trannytown or trannyplanet or trannyisland.

domains i own include amateurhairypussies.com nudemalemuscle.com and greatbigdicks.com. and the worst domain i ever bothered to think up and buy is seductivelegs.com ;-)

Actually thats a great hint when choosing a domain name and its something that Gary and I do all the time.

We learnt a while back that just because a domain sounds right at the time we think of it a day or two later and with several other options to choose from lets us choose the perfect domain overall

    HI all,

I put a fair bit of thinking into my domain names and I try to keep this as simple as possible.

Almost a year ago, I wanted to start a twink site, and since I was still in the mindset that domains were keywords separated by hypens was a good thing, I registered www.naked-gay-men.com. After six months it still hadn't made it into Google. I had noticed that another adult site has a site at: www.someotheradultsite.com/naked-gay-men-com.htm and this was the only reason that I could think that was preventing my site was being Googlized.

My site had tons of original written content, I wasn't breaking any rules, it had links from other sites, other sites of mine that used the same template had been indexed and ranked well. So I changed the site name.

This time I decided to go with a word that didn't even exist. I merged Euro and Aphrodisiac and came up with www.eurodisiac.com and within ten days of moving all of my content to the new domain, my site was in Google. Eurodisiac breaks all of the rules because it's impossible for anyone to remember and it's not a real word, but I like the name and the site is doing alright.

But when smooshing words together, you need to be careful, it can often cause a lot of confusion. I did a site for a guy who sells dungeon equipment. And even though I worked on the site, I can never remember his address, it's: www.masterrsdungeons.com, but I always forget whether there are two r's (he calls himself master r) and is it dungeon or dungeons?

Likewise I can never remember whether it's Bedfellow or Bedfellows.

And when coming up with a domain name, if you're not hyphenating the address, then you should check the web to see if someone else is. You could end up registering www.bigdicks.com just to find out that there's a massive site at www.big-dicks.com. That could prove confusing for your new site, and also, who needs to be getting letters from lawyers etc.

    Cheers

Dzinerbear, with a domain like eurodisiac.com, you have to have a very good site because the name isn't going to help sell it. i'm not saying not to do this, but i generally put keywords together when picking a domain. if all else fails, more surfers who actually searched those terms may click if they see it in the url.

and as far as galleries and avs sites go, when i market, it's easier if i can use the name of the site by saying

    Amateur Hairy Pussies

    Basschick,

I hear what you're saying, and I agree and disagree. I think a lot of surfers are so tired of seeing bullshit URLs like

    free-amateur-cock.com

which aren't "free" or "amateurs." So when they see something refreshing like eurodisiac.com with a hot description in a search engine listing, it might just work in my favour.

Let's face it, I wasn't getting anywhere with naked-gay-men.com because I couldn't get it indexed. At least ED is indexed, getting traffic, and making money.

And, I guess I'm tooting my own horn, I think eurodisiac is well on it's way to being a very good site. Yes, I might have to try harder to get traffic there because my URL doesn't say "hot cock" but I'm prepared to be patient and grow this thing.

    well, i do fine with

    amateurhairypussies.com
    greatbigdicks.com
    jackoffguys.com
    nudeattheoffice.com

every one of these domains describes exactly what is on the site. and people click each name all by themselves, even without being told to.

each to their own way of doing things. i'll stick with blatantly obvious domains **

actually eurodisiac is quite a nice site . both look-wise and content. i really like those types of designs a lot

when i shop for domains, which i hate as i dont like shopping at all unless i know i want this perticular thing, i pick many words that describe the same thing i try to target and play around with them.
and yes pick a domain name and sit on it for a couple days, because the next day you may not like that so cool name

and btw, Bas isn't a bulgarian name

Ah ... do tell. That's the model's name, and since the licence attached with that set of pictures had an address in Sofia, I just assumed he was. So he "became" a Bulgarian.

Might you have a better name?

And thanks for the compliment on the site. I try hard.

I'm going to recycle that content into another foreskin site and work with some bright colours, explore something monochromatic, and plunk it over at UGAS, or something. I would have tried Global Male Pass, but no one there is replying to my inquiry e-mail.

    yeah he's bulgarian allright
i guess they just came up with a porn name for him so he wont get recognized.
i showed some of the photos in the pack from pixmasters to a couple friends and they recognized some of the guys, one was even a roomate with my friend
another guy was dating another friend of mine.
    small world

most surfers probably won't even know the difference but if you want to here's some suggestions

    Andrei
    Ivan
    Georgi
    Drago
    Pavel

    jIgG,

Thanks for the suggestions. I take it you're Bulgarian then. Ten or more years ago, I was really into eastern European folk music and dancing – mostly Croatian, but Bulgarian and Serbian were my next faves.

Somewhere, I have some records from the Philip Koutev Ensemble, and somewhere else I have a pair of shoes that I used to dance in. I used to also "paint" eggs in the Ukranian style (got pretty good at it actually).

I'm not sure where my fascination with eastern Europe comes from, because I'm about as Canadian as you can get (Irish-French Canadian) so perhaps I was a Slav in a past life.

    Cheers

I tend to go for names that are 2 or 3 words - sometimes 4 if it has a keyword phrase I want. Mine are usually a mix of keywords with some other word I feel fits what the content is about, although I have gotten a couple that I just like and have multiple options for development.

Heres a couple of great sites for finding domains to register too..

http://www.whois.sc - Put in a keyword and it will find you all the domains available to register using that word.

http://www.uk2.net - Their Brainstorming machine is great you can put in 15 keywords and it will generate a list of available domains using all combinations of the keywords you entered.

    Lee
