Google AdWords Now Banning The Word "boys"

Google is now banning the word "boys" they started to disapprove our ads that have been running for quite some time. Here is what they said......

Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience that recent changes to our adult content policies may have caused you. We recognize that your ads may have previously been running on Google as well as the Google Network for certain keywords related to teenage sexual content.

While we understand that your ads may meet all necessary government regulations we have decided to no longer allow ads to run on certain terms relating to teen porn. I would suggest changing your ad text and landing page to avoid referencing teen porn. This can include terms such as "school girl porn", "sex with boys", or other terms that allude to the promotion of underaged sex. (Please note that the landing page may not contain teen porn concepts.)

I'm not sure what to think. The word boys and girls can mean different things but boys have never meant underage like the word ita etc.

Teen sex is a legal business age 18-19 but promoting a legal business with terms that accurately describe your content is not legal

    FUCK!

Ugh. They don't allow "twink" either. They're damn nit-picky.

They disallowed an ad I was running that used the word "amateur." The ad and keywords made no reference to "boys" or anything that could suggest underage. It was only variations on "amateur men" and "amateur guys". No mention of "boys" at all. And they still wouldn't accept it. It might have been something on the landing page, but jeez. They should really lighten up.

I'm with ya, they're really chapping a lot of people's asses lately, especially after the new ad algorithm that sent a lot of people's costs up.

Of course I disgree with this... I always do.

To me, the word "boys" means "not yet a man, immature". Sure, it can have other ageless meanings ("one of the boys", boy's night out", etc). But when used as descriptive text on a website, it makes me wonder about the intentions of the website's owner.

I don't doubt for a second that everyone who posts on GWW uses only 18+ models. But do you really want to give people (the government, religious zealots, represessed citizens, concerned parents) any reason to question your integrity?

The government, religious zealots, repressed citizen and concerned parents all deal with labels. If you're in the adult industry, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO OR HOW YOU DO IT, you are a target.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that is the reality of working in a taboo industry.

I would not be a bit surprised if this is not a "behind-closed-doors" justice department deal with Google, just as the Paypal deal was rumored to be.

The Justice Department, for example, could say to google "Ban the words "twink", "boys", "teen" and (whatever else), and we won't go after you for this failure to pony up data for our subpoena... but if you don't, plan on spending a few million bucks with all the crap we'll throw at you" and Google, in spite of their stance, would probably quietly make an "independent decision" to do what the government wanted.

I've never seen any proof, but there were a LOT of well-placed rumors saying that was exactly what happened with Paypal and adult.

    Could be Chip

Or maybe they got some complaints about surfers coming across sites via adwords that had CP... and after doing some research came to the conclusion that most of them targeted the words that are now being banned?

It's always hard to tell in situations like this what the real truth is as it's all so conspicuously shady and heavy handed.

one of the search engines i used to advertise on told me i could no longer use the word boy as it was now against their policy. when i talked to my rep on the phone, she told me they had received complaints from surfers who felt the word boy meant child porn.

the thing that pissed me off is my add said "19 year old boys" so it was obvious i wasn't describing anything shady but you know how rules like that are - they just make a blanket rule and apply it to all.

Is Google also banning the word "girls"? To me is is all in the context of how the word is used as to whether it implies someone underage or not.

True. But I'd rather be a target dressed in Olive Drab rather than wearing Blaze Orange. :bunny:
