Stories -- to niche or not to niche

Friends, which do you think works out more:

1. nich targeted stories
2. general-themed magazine variety

And can anybody point me in the direction of some sites where I can submit samples, thanks

are you writing these as samples? why not write 10 - 12 shortish stories (800 - 1200 words) that are fairly general or at least not extreme and that way you can resell them as a collection at web-legal.com and also zipcontent.com
