    Wtf?!?

I just saw this on CNN and im actually amazed...

So they showed this video clip of people protesting in Iraq, no big deal it happens all the time however, the news caster then turns around when the video shows this one guy and says 'this is Mr. so-and-so, one of the leaders of the insurgents'.

    No big deal there except..

RIGHT NEXT TO THE GUY is a US soldier just standing there, rifle in arms.

I mean WTF? You have the perfect opportunity to take down one of the leaders of the people killing all of these US soldiers and they do nothing, nadda, zip.

I just dont understand why he wasnt arrested and/or shot on sight.

Instead they let him happily on his way without so much as a warning.

Anyone else find it odd that the US military would stand by and let a known terror group leader go free?

Crazy shit, and right now, we are the ones who arent able to take bottles of water on airplanes.. Something just seems mighty wrong with that in my eyes.

    Regards,

    Lee

Sounds like an interesting scenario but remember European societies have rules of engagement in war. Funny when the British invated America it was their rules of engagement, and our lack of it, that won America the war :pimp:

The stupid things about bottles of water, paperclips, fingernail clippers, etc. it's all a sign of how we are letting our government control even the smallest aspects of our lives, out of our fear. Where will it stop? Once the rest of the world saw how easily Bush put Americans in fear and started infringing on our rights, other European governments have followed suit, Australia, Britain, even the Netherlands is becoming more conservative!

We've started down a slippery slope and not shooting an "insurgent leader" on sight just shows how fucked up our priorities are.

Just a quick note... I really can't believe this scenario and would have to see it for myself to believe it.

Oh trust me, both Gary and i had to do a double take to beleive what we were seeing, it really was strange knowing that this guys 'group' was actively going out killing coallition forces and yet this US soldier just stood there as he walked by waving at everyone in the crowd.

You are right, there are some seriously fucked up priorities at the moment.

Im hoping they are going to run the news peice again as i have the VCR ready to hit record if it does.

    Regards,

    Lee

just because the news guy said that person was an insurgent leader doesn't make it true.

and i can't see how not being able to bring a sealed bottle of water on a plane will make us any safer.

Because the most inconspicuous thing could be deadly basschick didn't you know. Remember, if you see something that makes you suspicious or nervous, call the terrorist report line. How else are you going to be kept afraid unless you think everything is dangerous and you need the government to protect you? How is the media going to make their money? By you feeling you need them. You need the media to advise you of the latest drama, disease, study, crime, etc. or you will die early or be struck with disease, etc. etc. The media is there to protect you.

The bird flu hysteria. Something like 26 people in 5 years have died from the bird flu, yet the NORMAL flu kills over 40,000 people a year. More people died last year from slipping and falling then the last 5 years of bird flu. :bunny:

Anyway.. the title of this thread is accurate to our current state of affairs " WTF?!? "

I agree with Basschick. Just because the news says he's a leader, that doesn't make him one. The news has been wrong and misleading before. It might also cause a massive "witch hunt" in looking for insurgants. If soliders shot and killed anyone that is "said" to be an insurgent then we'd have a hell of a lot more dead people, and most of them would be innocent I'll bet.

It helps diplomatically to be sure. It also keeps people from trying to hurt any and every solider they see. We don't want a "Oh shit! Lets shoot them before they shoot us!" attitude to start amongst the common folk. Lest we all forget the tragic events of the French Revolution.

The thing is, it's all ridiculous. They ban sealed bottles of water, but they allow prescription bottles with the passenger's name on them.

HELLO! How hard would it be for some terrorist to get a prescription for eye drops or some shit and fill that container with explosive or whatever?

Remember the ridiculous thing where you had to turn your computer on and show the $6 an hour person that the screen lights up? How hard would it be to have stuck explosives inside the case anyway?

It's all totally stupid. And I agree, it's all about creating fear where none exists for the purpose of systematically stripping rights away. I just saw V for Vendetta and I think it's a pretty powerful indicator of how shit can happen.

Hell, I just got away with carrying marijuana onto a plane stuffed inside my Tylenol bottle! It's AMAZING what they will allow!

    Sad

Lee, i agree with you totally about arresting the guy, they may have (??). Im sure you didnt expect them to shoot the guy live on fox news (or whatever) though.

I see alot of people on American boards being convinced that this whole terrorist thing is about bush ruling the world or making everyone scared. Im surprised as from the reports we get in the uk, i thought that the average american supported the war on terror and bush's approach. I guess that shows what ive allways believed, the press talks alot of bulshit to get readers/viewers/listeners etc.

Blair gets a similar responce here, i think they both made a monumental error in judgement going into iraq. I still love that sadam is no more. I will still vote for labour next election. but i think they made a boo boo and will be judged ultimatly on the uk and usa body bags that return from iraq.

they MAKE the news, they actually don't go out in get it. It's theater, well at least on CNN and Fox News. I can't watch CNN or Fox i feel like it's a video game, it makes me really dizzy.

The Spanish - American war was started by journalism that went too far. the media eggs on government to make war, it makes for an interesting headline. hope you guys keep your Noam Chomsky on your bedside table.
