    Flash or non Flash

I would like redesign my site, I'm thinking to make the header using flash, this is good idea? or maybe is better only using .jpg and animate .gif ?

    about size,
    what is the best size?
lately I see designs using about 1000pixels of width, like edengay.com or gaypornaccess.com

my stats about screen size for this august are:
    1024 x 768 55.00%
    800 x 600 23.35%
    1280 x 1024 12.62%
    1600 x 1200 3.81%
    1152 x 864 3.24%

still about 23% of surfers using 800x600

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

I would personally avoid flash (in large amounts) on sites especially if the surfer needs to click on flash objects.

personal preference is that flash is an "addon" or site enhancement. Im personally not a fan of sites that force the flash intro (without skip) or too much flash in the site or the whole site in flash. There are allot of people that disable it & dont bother so you lose a good % of people there too. Not everyone keeps it uptodate so then your forcing people away to download a newer version etc..
Use mainly for small elements & do the rest in gif & jpg (even allot of people using png too I believe)

best of luck either way tho!

I agree with those who have posted above.. a bit of flash is ok, too much flash is counter-productive

I strongly dislike flash. Was going to say hate but felt that was maybe a lil over the top.

don't you think that flash is become a standard.
especially with populair websites like video.google.com / youtube.com and myspace.com all using flash

I think that someone thinking that flash is not done, is thinking 2003 or so
people now just WANT to have the latest version because video is the hype
and most video sites use flash for streaming videos

so use flash where ever you want, only make sure that they do not have to click on flash objects to activate them

acpartner - sites with large amounts of flash still don't sell for me and flash banners still don't click as well with my traffic - that's as of today, not 2003.

do you have your banners document write, or do the visitors have to click to activate and then have to click again to open the link ?

the effect of flash can be higher or lower, but to don't use flash because of people not having flash installed is (i believe) not a good reason.

It all depends on the type of site you are promoting, if you have high end exclusive content with high end models, then your site design better reflect this, and flash is the only way to go. Surfers are geting smarter all the time, most can tell within 10 seconds the quality of your content. If you have a static cookie cutter design, chances are they are going to move on to a site with more appeal. Most surfers now have some kind of high speed. You need to grab there attention as soon as they hit your site, and flash is the best way. Remember we are in the entertainment business. If your seling plumbing supplies go with the old template, otherwise you will get left in the dust. I agree with the other post and avoid flash intros, instead build them into boxes.

Ditto - P U to flash format graphics. (As a net cruiser, I'd like to say thanks, to the writers of Adblock, for FireFox, for saving me from many days of frustration and angst)!

I really hate Flash heavy sites --- they piss off the surfers (unnecessary load on ones machine, as well they are extremely annoying) and people like ME.
I also strongly believe they lower sales potential!

It is not video that is being discussed, it’s creatives ... design ... header graphics, which Youtube and the others do not use Flash for their creatives, only for the video player/format.

Sure, those video sites have decided to use Flash as their standard format, but why? Maybe the CODECS?
Also, just because a new format or technology is out does not automatically make it a "standard".

As for people wanting videos in Flash format: I have yet to receive one request, from members or webmasters, for such.
Regarding video being the hype (?): I believe that to be correct, however they (members) want a better end product, such as XviD, which they can watch at full screen.
You ever watch Flash-format porn @ full screen?
    UHG!
