How To Cool Down A LapTop?

So the last couple of days i have noticed that my main laptop i work on has been getting really hot at the back where the fan is located and im wondering if anyone knows of a product (or method) that i can use in order to cool this thing down?

Anyone else ever had this problem and, if so, what did you do to stop it?

    Regards,

    Lee

You may be able to buy an after market slot fan to fit it .. if not ..

blow out the back with canned air - if that doesn't work, change out that fan. After 4 years of building PCs, we have found it is the cheapest fix for lots of trouble.

Oh .. and if you do find a replacement fan for your unit .. Buy 2!

You might consider a laptop cooler.

Some of the more expensive ones there ($45ish) also have USB/memory card expansions, in case they'd come in handy for work.

I dont know your set up, but if you want to cool it down on your desk Ive seen one product for apple laptops which I'm sure they have them for PCs too...

it's this product that mounts your laptop so it's an inch in the air, allowing air to pass under the bottom and help cool it....

    check CDW

Lap Top fans are real specific .. personally, I'd call the manf. and have someone else install it... but lap tops are a bitch to even open up.

Is it a Dell? Note today's huge recall of Sony manufactured batteries that overheat.

    Steve,

No its a HP i bought about 2 years ago when my Sony Vaio just kinda 'died' on me one day LOL

Im not overly fond of the Dell laptops as even their business machines seem to be more 'family' orientated than business orientated.

One thing that I've noticed with laptops is that it's important to watch where you're putting them. Ted often uses it on an ottoman, but the fabric doesn't allow for good circulation of air. I picked up a piece of glass for him to place on the ottoman.

Also, if you're working on a table, make sure they're not sitting on a cloth place setting. Don't sit them on a cushion on your lap.

    Cheers
    Michael

I got a Antec "chill pad" for $45, but you can get cheaper ones. Look for Targus chill pad on amazon. My laptop gets hot then just dies.
I can definitely say it helped, but not a whole lot - prolongs the symptoms but does not prevent them completely
