    ID and Passport Scanners?

    First post! W00t! :curtain:

Does anyone use an ID and/or ID/Passport scanner while on shoots or at the office? Now with heightened 2257 legislation, we're looking at purchasing a scanner that's portable, especially for remote shoots. Any recommendations? Right now we're looking at either the Visigo™ A5 Passport & Secure ID Scanner or the Scanshell 1000.

Rather than spending bunch of money on a specialized scanner, just take a digital pic of the ID or passport. If you're using a decent digital camera, you'll get a higher resolution image anyway, and that way you're storing the image of the IDs on the same card/set as the shoot itself.

As far as I know, that's what most producers do.

    Thanks!

We actually use the DV cam to get pics of their ID's. That way we've got the ID's along with the actual models in each shoot. Just wondering if folks were doing anything more than that now.

We used DV cam long ago, but we've occasionally run into resolution problems where the ID isn't easy to read because of the resolution limitations of DV. And we always (regardless of whether it's DV or stills) shoot closeups of the ID as well as the model holding the ID next to his face. I know some people that also show the model holding the release, and if the content is controversial (model is restrained or something) they actually have the model say that he is voluntarily participating, knows what he's getting into, etc.

Nothing other than an actual copy of the ID is required by 2257, nor should anything other than the ID and copy of the depiction be stored with 2257 records.

Let the model hold the ID together with an actuell newspaper. So you have a proof of the date of production. (means, can not be done earlier)

Good advice Lippi. That's what we do also.

    Thanks!

Thanks again guys! :x We had an incident a while back where one of the DV tapes we used was bad and we didn't have the footage of the ID's, so we're going to be bringing along a digital camera as well so hopefully we'll be covered in the future.
