Is XTube going to bring down VOD?

I was e-mailing my friend about some new content XonDemand added that would be something he'd like. He has an account and has bought time before.

    This was his response.

"I've not been subscribing to much online porn lately since I discovered Xtube. It is really amazing. Have you checked it out yet. It's an x-rated version of Youtube. There are tons of amateur videos on it."

And it got me thinking... I've been to Xtube and there is a ton of free stuff, some just a minute long, but I've seen some as long as 15-20 minutes. So if you can get it for free, is even 8 cents a minute is no longer a good deal?

    Should VOD sites be worried?

    I don't think it will

Initially the idea of Xtube sounds scary to VoD sites, but so did TGP's to the "image sites". If you watch any of Xtube regularly you will already see the trend. Pay sites are actually POSTING their own videos with the url "watermarked". The same thing is actually happening in the mainstream world on Youtube as well. Just recently NBC posted the entire trailer for that new show Kidnapped.

Xtube and sites like it, while free, will be the new "TGP" marketing tool.

But TGP's did fuck up image sites in some ways, it transferred allot of traffic to a much less profitable format, one that is too easy to just skip right to the images, and did help in devaluing image content.

xtube is being sued by Titan. Interested to see how that turns out.

AEBN owns xtube, so I'm assuming their not worried

I personally don't like it. I think there is too much free stuff out there already.

Also, hardcore without age varification is stupid. Looking for trouble for all of us.

Xtube, and sites alike have been getting more and more popular, but I think it's jsut a fad. In the long run it wont really stand up to a VOD with thousands of titles, stars, etc.
I think Xtube is for a quick giddy thrill, but people will still buy what they want and usualy they can find that at a VOD site.

One instance involving this model with the adult industry above.

Most of the shows on tv where clips show up on Youtube get pulled for copyright infringement. However, as said in post before mine, NBC is working with YT now to pormote their shows. I would imagine this is how the model will most likely work when it settles down in mainstream and adult.

Ya I think so too, but Visa will not let us use their cards for AV, this would have been the best way out of the arms race. The best thing for all of us would be too not allow hardcore content to be seen for free, but I do not see this happening. Basically the more traditional sites are going to be the hardest hit, but it will keep working down the ladder.

Xtube and Pornotube have a bit of a branding problem.

Xtube is run by a company from Canada and is not associated with AEBN.

    Pornotube is AEBN's property.

Right now, Xtube looks like a much more mature product. You'd think with all of AEBN's staff and horsepower they'd have a stronger product, but at the moment, at least, the upstart seems to be giving the industry Goliath a run for its money.
