How Many Sponsors Per Page / Site?

So i have just been speaking to someone about problems they are having getting a sponsor to convert, i tried all the usual things to find out why they werent converting as well as they had been and came to the conclusion that it was because this guy had been adding to many sponsor ads to his pages.

Without going into to much detail, last period he was converting lets say at 1:400 on this one sponsor who he has used for years now, this period, so far, he's converting at 1:1000+

Now, the reason i came to suspect he was converting low was because he told me he recently signed up for some new programs and that they were selling around 1:600 off the same pages his previous sponsor was doing 1:400 on.

So that got me thinking, is there such as thing as to many sponsor links on our sites? If so, what do you think the perfect balance of sponsor links and content is?

I make lots of sales from two of my pages that are just littered with sponsor links. From the top of my head, I cannot say that my sales are any better or worse from pages with only 1 or 2 paysites listed.

i tend to use one sponsor per site but thats because i use alot of sponsor content and i dont think its fair on that sponsor. sometimes 2, never more.

i was given some great advice with freesite traffic, and thats feed them to your own link list and trap them. yet to try it but sounds good to me so im going to.

I'm assuming you are talking about free and AVS sites here. On my AVS sites, I use one sponsor if that sponsor is a strong converter. I'll ocassionally use 2 sponsors if they aren't strong converters. And my sponsors are always a close match to the actual content as I can get. If I use sponsor content, I ONLY promote the sponsor who's free content I'm using. Promoting an unrelated affiliated program with free content is improper.

i often think i dont push enough sponsors per site. i just think its bad business to use sponsor content then have loads of other sponsor links in those sites. big sponsors like ars are fair game in my opinion, as long as you do push them fairly, but i go for smaller ones who arnt mega companies, and that requires playing the game fairly imo.

i know ill get shot down for saying that, i just think the big boys all over the web anyway and all we know they shave (not accusing ars of course but generally).
