Why do You Create Gay Porn Sites?

I was just wounding why most webmaster really create gay porn sites/content? For me this has more to do with expression than profit. I really enjoy being able to push the limits of peoples understanding of gay themes, and maybe shedding some light on our community other that was is presented in lets say most “gay pride parades” True acceptance and the ability to speak to the younger generation has much more to do with what I try to create that anything else really.

given the choice of having drag queens and leather lizards in pride day parades and a porn site made by Max Power.. I think I'll choose the queens and lizards for our gay spokes people.

    Just sayin'.

Now, Max, I recall quite clearly you being one of the people who accused me of "over-thinking" porn and saying that it's really just all about the money. And now it seems as if you've had a change of heart and are seeing the social benefits as well? Hmmmmm???

I've said this countless times, and at the risk of having people tell me that my goals are too lofty and ambitious, will say it again and again and again. For me, being a part of the adult business is ALL about "the greater good." The reason I write at all (even about things beyond porn) is because I honestly love to turn people on to things they don't know about, but more importantly to turn them on to the things that I feel have something important to say.

Porn, to me, has always been about sexual expression and validation. But not just the validation of seeing two men have sex. That's too easy. Good porn teaches gay men (albeit subconsciously) how to relate to each other beyond chest, arm and cock size. It teaches them about their desires and their fantasies. It shows them that it's OK to be who they are.

My ultimate goal in this business is to represent actual GAY sex using people that your average gay guy can relate to. Right now I'm doing that via my writing, trying to turn people on to sites that inspire me and write about topics that I feel are of particular relevance to the sexuality of gay men. Eventually I will do this via filmed content that challenges gay men to think outside the box. I will never use gay-for-pay models, though I will use straight-identified models who honestly WANT to have sex with other men on film and who would do it with or without the paycheck attached. I will never use gym bunnies who use steroids, and I will never shoot bareback content (unless the models are a couple who only play with each other monogamously). I want to show gay men who DON'T look like Matthew Rush that they are just as hot -- and, in fact, the way I see it, MUCH hotter -- than he is, and I want to represent honest, authentic gay sex the way that most of us have it when we're not being filmed.

I want gay men to watch the porn I plan to make and feel OK with who they are instead of wishing they looked more like the guys on screen. I want them to be so enthralled with the action on the screen that they keep watching even after they've shot their loads. (And yes, it does happen, despite what EVERYONE else keeps telling me.)

In short, I want to change not only the way that gay men watch porn; I want to change the way porn is made. I want to change the way that gay men relate to and think about each other, but mostly, I want to change the way that gay men think about themselves. As far as I'm concerned, there's no greater classroom than the bedroom for gay men to learn about who they really are.

I'm well aware that MANY in the business seems to think that "nobody cares about plot or social change in porn--nobody is watching porn for the reasons you say," but I positively refuse to believe that. That mentality is for lazy thinkers who really only care about one thing: Money. If that's why someone is in the business, fine. They can shoot their content that is exactly the same as everybody else and collect their paycheck and go about their day. But that mentality has nothing to do with why porn was created in the first place, and it has little relevance to what I hope to accomplish.

I was told by my grade school teacher to "dream big," and damned if that's not what I'm doing.

For me it all began because I couldn't find any sites which catered for my particular niche.

Back then it wasn't about the money which came later. Now the site has allowed me to move into some mainstream.

Without the money I couldn't spend as much time on it but I still think I'd run a site even if it was just for my own enjoyment.

I think this illustrates part of why I'm in the business as well. I think it's great when people pick up the reins and create sites in order to represent certain sexual proclivities in their content. It's great that just about anyone can come online and find a site that they can relate to. Makes everyone feel a little less lonely and alienated for liking what they like. Kudos!

I agree completely with this mindset. I'm not saying that any of our sites were created to encourage social change, but we *do* aim to, in our small way, encourage people to thiink a bit when they're viewing our content. That's why we want to put positive messages in our contnet... such as portraying our models as empowered and enjoying what they're doing, including messages about safer sex, even encouraging those who have an unhealthy relationship with their sexual desires to seek help.

We have a site under development with a new solo model. His name is Jeff, and he'll be at Gay Phoenix Forum. Jeff is very interested in social change -- he was the cofounder of the Peace Club in his high school, was an Eagle Scout, has been actively involved in a number of political issues. He's hoping to be able to create dialog with his members about those issues through his blog and creating discussion (or at least interest) in what he believes in. It's an interesting experiment, and I don't know if it will work, but I have a lot of respect for what he believes and does and we're looking forward to helping him to use this medium as a vehicle to get people to think.
