Operating under an assumed name / alias

Hi guys. I'm about 30-45 days away from being a licensed photograpaher for adult models. I want all of my work to be under an alias. Do I need to register anything? There is nothing I can see in terms of local or state requirements for registering... but I was wondering for the adult industry in general. Obviously, I can't pick a name like Colton Ford or John Bruno because those names are already taken by porn stars/directors.

Where can I look to find this out?

Also, I will need some contacts for trying to get some models. I doubt I will have a lot of success here in Ohio, so I would most likely have to drive or fly out somewhere. I am 6-7 hours from Chicago and 8 hours from NYC.

    Cheers!

You can find models anywhere, you just have to look.

There are about 3 bazillion colleges in Ohio, which means broke college kids, which means models Not to mention all those nice corn-fed Midwestern boys. There are a couple of small gay adult companies in Ohio that produce their own content, perhaps you can track them down and see if they are interseted in buying content from you.

There's no licensure or regulation per se for adult photographers. You can just set up a DBA with your county or city and then you can legally operate under that name.

a "licensed photograpaher for adult models"? i've never heard of this in over twenty years of adult - does it exist?

and as far as being primary custodian of the content, no - you cannot use an aka. you must use your real name and address or you're looking at 5 years in jail. if you have any money, i strongly suggest you have a phone consultation with a first amendment attorney - and no other kind.

as far as getting models, join www.onemodelplace.com and be sure to get the second tier of membership as that allows you to search models for adult related types of modeling. also be SURE to try www.craigslist.com - there is an adult section for craigslist in gigs.

agreed! , i've never heard of having to file for a license for "photographing" other than permits to shoot on private property. (will have to check on the validity of that , something may have changed , what's new)
in regards to operating under an assumed name/alias i've never heard of that being used either (sean cody , corbin-fisher , jake cruise , longboardjim)

sincerely ~ ..."annonimity is like a warm blanket!...that belongs to someone else!"... :fool:

Let me reword that: I will have a license to run a legally owned business, which happens to be photographing adult models.

I was not referring to having the alias be the custodian of content - that will be my real name. I want my "photographer name" to be the assumed/alias.

if you're talking about a DBA, of course you can - just like any other business
