So for the last few weeks ive been working on and off on a lyrics site called Fantastic Lyrics and i was wondering how you folks would change the site from its current format?
Im thinking of removing the 'hits' and the 'added by' column on the tables and also putting a random set of sings on the front page.
Other than those things, what else would you do to make the site look and work better?

Much longer time to edit your posts, more control over the threads you start like being about to remove them with-in 20 minuets or something.

The first thing I'd suggest is to refine the browsing by song title/artist. I went to look up somebody whose first name is Chris, and I got through about 30 pages of C's and wasn't past the Ca's. If you want to get fancy, there's some really nifty predictive stuff you can do with Ajax now that refines the list as you're entering characters. Dunno how involved it is to code, but it's definitely made for this sort of thing.
The other thing is... I assume you know that ASCAP (no, not ASACP, Max) and BMI are both really REALLY aggressive about shutting these sites down... they consider it copyright violation even though, in my book, it probably sells recordings for the artists... I've known a couple that were great resources that suddenly disappeared with a note that they'd been threatened to be sued vigorously into oblivion if they didn't take the site down.
Do you have the licenses to publish these lyrics? This is the same as content theft is to the porn industry.

Right now its using a 'default' script that was supplied with the database hence why im asking what people would change so that when the time comes to chat with the guy who id like to make the script changes, ill be able to give him a list of things that i need to be able to do.
Also, yep im aware of the potential for legal issues arising out of this along with the numerous sites that have already been shut down however, im confident that shouldnt be an issue right now, at least for the immediate future and if it ever does become an issue, ill have our attorneys deal with it and let them make the decisions for me LOL

As of right now, its still somewhat of a 'grey' area as to whether this does or doesnt get covered under 'fair use' and copyright laws, in fact, in February of this year i beleive the MPA sent out several C+Ds to various sites that were using the lyrics which publishers owned however, they were only sent to lyrics sites that were also 'selling' music albums or music downloads for commercial gain, something that i was adviced against doing and therefore dont do for this very reason
