ABC News Blow The Cover On Active Duty Dstributor

the Republican National Committee itself has accepted several donations over the past few years from the president of a large pornographic movie distribution company.
Marina Pacific Distributors calls itself "the leader in adult video distribution." Included in the movies for sale on their Web site are videos made by "Active Duty Productions." Active Duty, as their name suggests, has cast active duty soldiers in some of their films but not without serious consequences for the soldiers.

Im not seeing how this is of any relevance to anything, what am i missing?

Its not like by sending in their donations they got excused from anything that happened in the past.

"It's very frustrating for the leaders of the 82nd Airborne to know that people like this are out in the public who prey on our troops," said Major Thomas Earnhardt.
What? Get 18yo adults to appear in porn?

Much worse than getting an 18yo to sign up to be sent off to some bullshit war in the Middle East and be blown up by a roadside bomb, all because they were told they'd get money for college.

People are making a huge deal that one of the owners of Marina Pacific gave money to a republican.

I'm sorry, but I doubt that when Nick Boyias sent a check that he said "THIS IS GAY PORN MONEY" in big bold letters on the check. It was probably a personal check, since nowhere does it say the contribution came from Marina Pacific, but from one of the owners of MP.

I would seriously doubt that some underpaid campaign worker is going to go on the Internet and do an exhaustive search of the background of everyone contributing money.

I mean... i agree if the loser Republicans are going to take the money and then turn around and condemn porn, that's pretty disingenuous and hypocritical, but I doubt they knew when they accepted the money. However, if it helps get the loser Republicans out of power, then I'm all for it.

Exactly. And let us not forget that Jet Set and Active Duty is only part of Marina Pacific's business. They distribute many titles, a good portion of which are straight, so it's not like they're an exclusively gay company. In fact, don't they make the majority of their money from hetero content?

    Why? LOL

Would they make a huge deal out if it if i donated money to an anti-abortion group? What about a donation to the Democrats? The church? (incidently, both Gary and I do donate to the local church each year so that some of the kids in our area that live in low-income families actually have a Christmas present to open).

I dont see what someone does with their personal monies is anyones business but their own, gay, straight, or martian.

People spend far to much time worrying about other peoples lives in the US.

    Regards,

    Lee

I normally don't post on here, but I will step in if it helps shed a little light on this issue. In one of the RNC ads they criticize Harold Ford, the Democratic US Senate candidate in Tennessee , for filming one of his campaign ads from inside a church when he accepted money from a porn company. I think the issue here is the RNC is in no position to criticize Ford for accepting money from a porn company, when they themselves have done the same.

Well I think ultimately any political party is deluding themselves if they think they can pick through an opponents contributor list and scream bloody murder when they find monies coming from someone potentially worthy of a little negative publicity. Because there are tons of people giving tons of money to all parties, countless candidates, at every level of public office.

Now, huge contributions from or an allied PAC run by someone is a completely different story.

But relatively small contributions here and there? C'mon now.

Even if it were true, I'm not sure I'd want to go to college THAT badly. I'd rather wait tables like before or work in fast foods ... even if it means having rather large people comment on how good you smell after work.

I think the most disturbing thing about this whole issue is... Why the hell is the owner of a gay porn company giving money to Republicans?! DUMBASS!!

I could not agree more. Look at all the hypocracy in the GOP regarding gay issues...and escpecially porn.

Maybe the GOP will return the donation...or buy a massage or some meth.

You have to understand the mindset of the recruiters and the people they recruit. The recruiters work disproportionately in very low income areas where people think they have no way out except to work at the local factory the rest of their lives. The recruiter paints rosy pictures of amazing training, incredible benefits, a fully paid college education... if it were any other organization, they would immediately be shut down by the FTC for fraudulent marketing practices, but because it's the government, it's OK.

We have several guys (in addition to Skyler and Jeff) who are using the money they make from doing adult stuff to help pay for their college. They've thought about it pretty thoroughly and considered the future impact, and they're OK with it.

I mean, I'm sure the military guy doesn't get it, but I think if you ask the average 18 year old college-bound kid "would you rather earn some money having sex on camera, or would you rather enlist in the military and most likely be sent to Iraq", I would *think* that most would rather have sex on camera.

Actually, that might be a really interesting survey.

Ok.... I have a question. If you think this kind of donation "crazy", does that imply that giving to Democrats is sane? Looking at this strictly on our business level - what if Marina Pacific's owners gave money to Sen. Dianne Fienstein?

Or Sen. Clinton of New York?

They sit on the Senate Judiary Commmittee - which is the perview of federal criminal law, such as the bills recently bandied about and passed that effect us. (2257, etc)

I have actually wondered about this. With so much of the porn industry in California, whose Congressional delegation is overwhelmingly Democratic, doesn't that imply that they would be standing up to the evil Republicans and protecting their adult industry constituents. After all - the Iowa delegation (both Dems and Rep) seem to find one voice when it comes to farm price subsidies and ethanol. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada takes money from casinos and represents their interests as it relates to Nevada.

Now if you answer this by saying something like Feinstein and Barbara Boxer don't lift a finger to help the adult industry, then the Marina Pacific guy would have a solid response to your "inconceivable" declaration - that both parties on this issue are pretty much the same, so therefore he would give his money to politicians with whom he is comfortable with on other issues.

Every other industry in the country has realized the benefits of having a non partisan advocacy organization to educate any lawmaker with power and willing to listen.... until then we are going to have to react passively and late in the courts.

    Steve
