How Do You Decide Where To Advertise?

When looking to buy ad spots on various sites, how you do decide where you are going to test out ad placements initially before commiting to long term campaign placements?

I personally tend to look at how many repeat clients a place has, for example, ill check several new places this month and for the next 3 months, will watch how many of their existing clients remain clients over that timeframe.

Its actually quite interesting to watch, sometimes you can even gain information about how long sponsors sites are 'ripe' in terms of paid traffic and others you can tell just how shitty paid placements on certain sites are, an ad will go up and a week later, it will be no more LOL

Sop, what criteria do you folks look at when deciding where to place paid ads?

    Regards,

    Lee

Thats a good idea -- I also look at that.

One of the other things that I do is go to the site and see exactly what type of ads are already being displayed.

For instance with AVN Ad/Adbrite ads I've noticed that sometimes the conversion ratios that they have listed in the stats are underperforming because the ads don't stand a chance for the most part of getting any real good response.

E.G. there's tons of good gay sites on those networks with str8 porn ads, casino ads, and god knows what else...

You know, thats annoying to me more than 'telling' about the ads or the site the ads are displayed on.

Its almost like the person selling ads just doesnt care what gets shown as long as they get the ad revenues, which to me makes me wonder, if they dont care about the ads being shown, how much care are they going to give *me* as a client.

I kinda agree with you there Lee and I often wonder about wtf is up with that. I think part of the reason though is that they're also running run of network ad buys. The other part of course is just as you said though, grabbing what they can....as long as someone buys, they're happy. Ah well.

Lee, you need a delete post, and a longer edit, option.
