Lots of members just quit my site...

I have a confession to make.

I am a die hard, left wing, Hollywood Wacko.

At least thats what a lot of members at my small male spanking and punishment website (www.tropixxxvip.com) now think of me.

Last week I posted the AVN article 100 reasons why you should vote the bums out of office on my site. As such, a suprising number of members contacted both me and CCBill and asked to cancel their memberships...citing that they "could not support" the left wing agenda.

I had avoided mixing politics and porn in the past...even with the last presidential election I stayed quiet on my site...letting my wallet dictate what I should say...or not say.

You know what? Yeah, a few members quit. Yeah, so far it is going to cost me about $500 in lost revenue a month...but now I can sleep better.

(Shit, I eat out at least $500 a month...so now it is back to eating at home for a while until my membership bounces back.)

So, I guess what I am saying is if you have a soapbox to reach the masses and you don't use it out of fear...then the other side has already won.

Thanks to the "Don't Stroke, Vote!" guys for giving me the idea to go dark on election day...to state my opinions...to try to make a change.

As far as the Right Wing Fascist Idiots that quit...rest assured I won't be missing them!

I am all for speaking my mind and all that, but I would never had made a move like that! Dipping in to my ski fund for something less worthwhile - never I say!

If you truly want to help you side out: take all the earnings you assume you'd have made from those on the other side of the fence and donate it to you flavour of politics.

I personally despise politics and the majority of politicians, so maybe I simply do not see this as anything but self-gratification, which again is cool.

Id never consider making any kind of political statement on any of my sites, paid or free for exactly that reason, you never know who may be a member of your site and what might piss them off.

I understand your position, and like I said...that was my position for the last few years. I do think however that America has lost it's course. For Christ sake, did you miss the debate on torture? American's torture? Since when? I know I didn't wear the uniform for that we can torture someone.

My whole point of my post was to hopefully encourage people to stand up for their beliefs and speak out. Yes it might hurt you in the pocket book...but if you dont speak out...then what if they outlaw porn alltogether? What would hurt your pocket book more? A few lost members or outlawing an entire industry?

If you have a site and don't express your opinions on it...then maybe that makes you part of the problem...it certainly does not make you part of the solution. Or, maybe it makes you smarter than me business wise...both could be true.

It is easy to hide behind phrases like "I don't like politics", or "They are all the same"...but come on...get real.

I think porn sites are one of the last few places where people feel that they can just "be" regardless of their beliefs on any given position. People don't want to be engaged at a porn site. They want to get off. It's not that you aren't entitled to have your own political opinions, I think it's just not the right forum to present them at. Some of your members took it as a direct provication and you can see the results. You may even have really hurt some of their feelings. Words don't exist in a vacuum. Even though you believe in your positions, you have to consider other people beliefs and feelings as well.

Don't let the naysayers discourage you on what you did. I think it's extremely commendable, and I wholeheartedly, VEHEMENTLY disagree with anyone who tries to say that there is no place in porn for politics. (Though it might have helped if you'd been a little more objective in your post instead of coming out as a raging liberal... hehe)

If you have something to say and a way to say it, and you are prepared to deal with the consequences of saying such a thing, then GO FOR IT. If fear of losing customers is the only thing holding you back, and you're not really concerned with losing a few, then you owe it to yourself to say what you can. As far as I'm concerned, NOT speaking out because of self-interest is one of the biggest ills of our society.

The whole "People just want to get off" mentality is pretty stale to me, regardless of how much of it is rooted in truth. It keeps people from doing anything beyond the ordinary and keeps them from trying to branch out and think OUTSIDE this limited box that porn people are so readily boxing themselves into. That, to me, is just very sad. There can be so much more to porn for those with the vision and the daring to open their eyes and see it.

So again, kudos to you!

Probably a good idea to keep your political beliefs to yourself. If the right forced their view on you, like you did your members, you would have had a coronary. But it's okay when you want to force your beliefs on others that are paying for a service?

You go to McDonalds to order a double cheeseburger, large frie and a soda. You don't want to walk in there and read some polical view that the owner of the franchise published behind the front counter or something and is shoving his view, left or right down your throat. Keep that stuff to yourself, seems kind of arrogant to force your view down paying members throats, regardless if they agree with your view or not. It's not the place for that and shows lack of customer service and respect for your customers.

Your torture comment, I am not even going to go there. Trust me, the Iraqi prisoners would rather have us back running their terrorist prison camps then the current Iraqi police that kill, beat and rape the prisoners and young boys and girls. *If this is the torture subject you are speaking of, if not discard this paragraph.*
