Pretty darned blatant, huh? I guessing someone over there just doesn't know better than to do this to affiliates.
Thanks for the information... that's just robbing affiliates.
Guess I need to drop a site !
Guess those big payouts for new I'm Live signups was too much of a temptation ... but that's just wrong. Upsell inside the site guys, or push them on exit consoles, but don't steal your affiliate traffic like that.
Thanks for the heads up! His link from us is now gone.
Yeah this is what happens when a sponsor pays $125 per sign-up.

Dear affiliates,
Please accept my apologies. That refresh was simply a test and was planned to be removed ASAP. We do value all the traffic that affiliates send and regret that the refresh has been on there this long. It was planned to be there for less than a day to conduct a test, however time got ahead of me here.
Please know, everybody, that the re-direct is now officially off that page and that the site is back to normal. We certainly do value all your traffic at S60 :-)
All the best,
Brian
programs that redirect and then stop it when they're caught don't really convince many people of their sincerity. deliberately running a test with someone else's traffic is theft, and while you probably didn't mean it that way, none of your affiliates stood a chance of making any money with their traffic, and the only reason they send traffic is to make money.
next time, if you are sincere, email your affiliates in advance of any test or problem so they can take down the links to your site during the test. or offer to pay them per click during the run of the test.
Hey Basschick (it's been a while :-)
Yeah, agreed. Hopefully, too many were not alienated with the test. There are facets of this business that I learn about everyday! This is one of those times.
How is your new site?
Cheers,
Brian
Thanks Brian, let's chalk it up to we all learn something new every week and move on.
Thanks for at least replying to this thread.
Cheers
Michael
BTW, just a head's up: any site that uses a refresh meta tag and redirects to another site is in jeopardy of falling into disfavour with search engines. It can even get your site barred for life.
Cheers
Michael
Good way to test out something like that is to have affiliate linking codes direct surfers to a special URL that offers up nothing but your site and your site alone. And that way, if you want to experiment with your type-in traffic going directly to your domain, you can do that without affecting your affiliates' referrals.
Though, even that is not a perfect solution. Because, depending on how long your affiliates' cookies are set for, they may refer someone who leaves the site and then comes back on their own via type-in and still have the potential to make a sale off of that surfer.
My personal view and the approach we take here is that if you're a paysite owner/operator, you just have to accept the fact that signups are your source of income. Let affiliate sites be the ones to earn affiliate commissions, and let paysites be the ones to earn signup revenues. That's why we don't have any redirects, any cross sells, any exit consoles, any outbound links to other paysites or anything like that. No traffic-trade links, none of that, on any of our sites.
ShaneSixty.com has an attractive design and even more attractive models. Your site has tremendous brand potential, so why send anyone anywhere else? There's real value in establishing your site as an Ultimate Destination. Once arriving at ShaneSixty.com, there should be no need to go anywhere else to get what you need. No other sponsor need be brought to the attention of your surfers once they arrive at your site. Your site is of high enough quality to be able to run it that way. By offering other options, you're potentially implying there's a need for other options and allowing the consumer to consider your site might not offer enough.
In the shortterm, sure, you could score extra money off of sponsors. But why bother, when in the long term establishing your site and your name and brand is that much easier when people see nothing but ShaneSixty.com when they go to ShaneSixty.com. Not all paysites can get away with that. But yours very well could.
