Adding a blog

Hey folks,

What software do you recommend for adding a blog to a website? It's for my b/f... he wants to register a domain and create a motivational blog site. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :-)

Starting off the site with a blog - you have a few to pick from

WordPress, GeekLog, Blogger Plug-in, PHP-Site, b2evolution, Nucleus, pMachine Free

A few double up as a full site CMS and all are Free

Wordpress is pretty easy to install and modify, and is one I use nicely, but I also found checking HERE for a side by side comparison helped me decided too.

Wordpress is simple to set up thus a lot of people use it.

Look over them all and figure out your future plan and then see what fits into your overall design

Another vote for wordpress. The ease of installation is incredible. Basically, all you need is a database (you can ask your host to set you up witn one if you're not sure how to), to upload the files (you may have to change persmissions on a few folders), and then it's a 2-click installation. Let me know if you need help with installing, I can even do it for you if you run into trouble

The Wordpress install takes like 2 minutes tops. The other thing I like about Wordpress is there are a million skins and plugins for it so you can get a very customized look without paying someone to make you a custom skin. Powerful, widely used and supported. Def my favorite.

If you want to set up on your own host I think WordPress is the way to go.

Although blogspot is a good chiose. Looking good

Also, you can find hosting plans like bluehost or dreamhost which have automatic wordpress installs, making it even easier than it already is
