    Surfers care about 2257?

I moved some sites over to a new server. I normally link all sites to one 2257 page but forgot to upload it for about a day. I had my 404 diverting to a paysite, im amazed at how many refs in the sponsor stats came from that 2257 page. In fact thats how i realised id made a mistake!

Do you think the little blighters are just curious and click the link or do they care about 2257 stuff? Maybe it makes them feel safer?

Anyway i reckon some ads on that page might be a good plan!

They should care! But I think most consumers aren't aware that a site is suppose to have 2257 on it, or even what it is. I think consumers assume you are operating a legal business since you are a US company and can accept plastic. $0.02

We put up a new tour at one point and for a short period it didn't have a 2257 statement on it.

I got several emails from people saying they wanted to join, but didn't see the notice that the models were 18 and wanted to know if the site was legal. So I think that at least some porn buyers (maybe more those who look at twink content) are conscious of the legality issue and want to stay on the right side of the law.

The other thing is, a really savvy surfer can look at the 2257 notice and tell whether the content is original and unique, or purchased from other providers. We've had a handful of customers that seemed aware of using the 2257 for that purpose, so it might be that people were looking at the notice for that purpose as well.

interesting. never thought surfers would be interested in 2257, and now can see from the stats clearly. I think I agree at the point with gaybucks_chip, they can tell whether a site has different content or the same as others just by looking at the 2257 page. :kickcan:

Interesting answers. I don't have any paysites and I get very few clicks on my 2257 links which are on every page.

yes, we all know that they should care, but do they ... NOPE - not one bit!
Just check stats on the link. Rarely are they clicked!

I've had a couple of emails from users asking about the location of our 2257 notice, so I think some care.. Although most probably don't even know what it is!

In a word NO, the only time I get questions about a models ID’s (2257 info) is when some of these perverts are trying to stalk the models, so I never give this info to them. :fuckyou:

This really has me thinking now....

I'm still relatively new in the Adult industry, and I have a blog. I am an affiliate for lots of pay sites. Do I need a 2257 statement? Because it's not really MY content. Should I have a 2257 notice?

Under 4472/2257A, there are no more secondary producers, everyone is simply a "producer" so if you are putting up content, be it sexually explicit, simulated sex, or even non-sexually explicit nudity, you are expected to have the appropriate 2257 documents for each depicted model. The only exception to this is as someone else stated recently... if the URL at the top of the page isn't on your server (meaning you're linking to someone else's content), then they have to have the records, you do not. But even a sexually explicit banner is subject to the new regulations as they currently stand.

Thanks for the reply. Does this include banners for other sites, or are you talking about a banner I might make to promote my site? Also, I have content that originated from the UK. Are there other regulations about that? I really have no idea.

Great topic guys - I'm not sure if I have a counter on my 2257 page and being from Australia it was places like this that got me to do it. I'm really keen now to see the click throughs on the 2257 page and it is a great point that some surfers are interested to know if the site is legal (I think all surfers should be).
