    Program affiliate reps

Do you push a program without a program rep? Or one who doesn't seem to have the time?

I joined a program, got the auto response, cut and paste reply and included was the ICQ of the rep.

Added it to ICQ and here it is, 2 weeks later and it's still in the "Awaiting Auth." Position.

I'm close to passing up the program all together for this one simple item but wanted to hear yall's (heh) view.

Being a rep myself, I always respond immediately to ICQ or email requests...Although I do have a few contacts still "Awaitng Approval", so with theses guys I just dont end up doing any business, and move on to the next.

Why though? They could end up sending you a ton of sales! Is it just a time thing?

I dunno, I just assumed they are not interested in doing any business, or are to busy to deal with me...Or they do not pay enough attention to thier ICQ list.

I'd maybe wait on this until the dust settles from the New Year. Maybe the person is just on an extended vacation.

That said, when I was a rep, I always tried to jump on new contacts right away, especially when they're seeking you out.

You may want to try posting a message with their program name it, someone else in the company will probably have their own prog name boardtracked. They may show up and shed some light on the no response.

    Michael,

I'm not going to "out" a program just yet. The rep has posted here a few times within the "auth" period. To me, they have time to post fluff or "check it out" threads, so they also have time to assist affiliates with the initial "live touch" of hitting accept on ICQ.

I don't even have questions for the program. I see the tools, know how to use them and understand the terms. Just wanting that warm and fuzzy, though meaningless hint of life.

And maybe if I don't post the program, more programs will assume it's them and they can audit their reps and see if the paycheck made out is to the right person.

if the program uses third party stats AND payments and they have everything i need to get started, i might push them even if i can't make contact and IF (this is the important part) the site is outstanding and i'm quite sure it will sell well for me.

but i would sending an email before writing them off. they could have an issue with icq they don't even know about.

if it's not a ccbill, epoch or verotel run program - in other words, if my payouts aren't being made by a third party processor, then no, i wouldn't promote them.

this has turned out to be an intersting thread.

First we have webmasters posting before about how spoiled affiiates are getting.. and now we have webmasters saying they most likely wont promote a site that doesn't have an affiliate rep handy.

Interesting... anyone see the dichotomy in that? interesty

I think no response in just a couple days is bad. Personally I would move on especially after that long. It is not a good sign that you just want approval and they can't even take care of that for you.

I dont think thats spoilt. You need a rep in case something goes wrong, like missing payments or something. I dont demand a rep on icq but if they offer that service then dont auth me i see it as being poor comunications. You need good comunications through either email or chat as a minimum i think.

Also by rep we just mean a contact. That only needs to be the program owner, not someone hired just to deal with us.

I do not even know what site you guys are talking about but, maybe he just put that ICQ thing on his contact info 2 years ago and has just forgot about it or no longer uses ICQ

But that is a good point, their is a world of difference between a “Rep” and a Program Owner. Now I know their are some super Reps around, but being a affiliate or webmaster for so long I have a real bias against most of these Rep guys. For the most part I would rather just read your programs rules or guidelines, and deal with a machine than have some one put in “charge” of my account that 3 weeks ago was working at BK or something.

This does not just go for affiliates programs, as I am learning the banks Rep's are no picnic trust me

I would just email them. ICQ can go bad sometimes, and who knows, maybe the auth request just got "lost in the mail" or something?

Of course, I push programs that have not dedicated (or allocated to our account) a program rep. I actually prefer it this way, mainly because I rarely need them.

As for them not replying: I would have moved on after the few weekdays of them being N/A!

I am not a huge fan of IM's (ICQ MSN etc) - I''ve always preferred e-mail. Matters not as I do reply within a 24-hour period (of course some are missed because they were sent to the spam trap because some still insist on using subject lines, such as question). Of course, this excludes those whom have mailed me before and continue to use the same addy (they're on my safe list).

I'll also admit that I created many 'cut & paste' responses, but only for scenarios that require a typical response (account updates, site member replies etc), but that does not mean my eyes do not read every word!

    I never use auto-response!

However, let's be honest: the problem you mention is not with reps alone. Horrid comunications skills plague our industry! Many have "accidentally" delete my mail, which ALWAYS has a beyond clearly marked subject line (plus the fact that my addy, and unlike most, has not changed since '99).
