    Are your videos safe

I pulled a forum search and didn't seem to find anything on it, so...

What does everyone think of the "videoDownload" firefox extension?

What is it? Well I'll just say your full movies and DVD's and other protected video streams belong to me via one click.

    Is it honestly that easy?

Just thought I would post it for those of you who host videos.

    Scary stuff......

Makes a good case for DRM, but of course to date customers have pretty much rejected that.

I'm not sure that DRM would even protect it... basically if a user wants it bad enough, there are tools out there that will capture whatever is appearing on the screen or playing through the speakers regardless of whatever protection is there.

The way I look at it, the function of DRM is to provide a basic lock on the door. Someone that wants to can pick the lock pretty easily, like sliding a credit card in the doorjamb. But most just won't bother and will go somewhere else.

there's another program like this I was asking AEBN about in threads here a while back. $39.95 , no spyware, and downloads streaming vids, the actual video files, not a screen cap and audio cap.. the actual file. Downloads the vids from Xtbue, AEBN, CNN, BigBrother website.. those are just the ones I tested.

If you can download music off the web with no real consequences.. why not porn?

Really sucks.. have to come up with a new business model

What is the name of the application? If it labels itself as anything other than Mozilla or IE when it talks to the web server, you could probably find a way to trap for it in Apache and either block it or send it to a copyright warning page or something...

As unfortunate as this is, it's actually just making something that is already possible easier. The extension will only you to download a video that is already going on to your system (cacheing or a video that you could do a "save as" to anyway). It doesn't seem to affect a video that is streaming.

I tried to see if I could get a .wmv streaming file or a .flv streaming file and it would not pick up either. However if I go to a page with direct urls to videos that cache or progressively download as you play them then yes this extension will work.

Mine works on everything. just make sure you do everything it tells you to do on the DL screen.
