    I Wonder? Advertising suggestions?

Hi everyone! Hope everyone's been enjoying the holidays, and is looking forward to 2007!
    :broccoli:

I would like to hear what others have found to be good places to advertise adult websites. I already know about Google Adwords (and Googel Base), as well as textlink advertising (ie, adbrite). They are ok, but didn't give a good retrun.

I'm looking at putting more focus on advertising in adult only publications. I would like to know which tends to have better results, in regards to sales (these are only examples): paying for advertising on big sites such as playboy and hustler, or paying for advertising in the various local publications? What have your experiences been?

I would suggest http://www.jubmag.com and http://www.cybersocket.com are good for print advertising. I haven't done anything with Playboy etc. so I can't help you out much there.

well, whatever you do, don't go with gay.com.

They tried to get us to do a three-month ad-buy and I talked them down to a single trial month.

I needn't have bothered at all.

We got anemic traffic, and that's being kind. a $2000 ad-buy and we got just over 1500 clicks in a month with zero sales.

When I complained about the horrible trickle of traffic (and it's what I used to get from a three-month-old TGP gallery), they didn't understand why I'd be so let down.

I dont fault their sales guy who was very helpful, great to work with and a gay biker such as myself, but MAN, what a waste of time and money that was.

Jasun, you could put a banner on my website for half of that and I promise you will get the same number of sales or your money back.

Jasun thats interesting to hear about what happened with Gay.com. So far no one that I know of has had good traffic from them. Just wondering (because they have been tring to get us to do an ad-buy) where within their site was the ads?

    Thanks!

It was all over... top of the pages, side bars... even their chat room.

they still don't seem to understand that $1.40 per click isn't a good price.

Although let's face it, the gay.com chat is as useless as tits on a bull. I went in there to try to see if our banners were even up, and within 3 minutes, had about 10 private messages.. every one of them saying "Hi.. you look cool.. wanna talk? i don't know much about this site and i'm new to the gay thing, but I have a profile here.. " and then give me a link to a guys with cams page.

all of this and not a single thing posted to the actual chat window, because it's nothng but bots in there.

    Oh well.. live and learn.

I do not believe their really are many at all worth the time and money. I would defiantly talk to Denise at hunkhunters.com http://www.hunkhunter.com/ads.html and Google Ad words works for some. For the rest of this paid placement stuff, if their traffic was really worth a crap to start with they would be sending it to a affiliate programs not selling the traffic. :innocent:

I've said exactly the same before on here myself...still it was a new way to spend $2000 that I hadn't tried before......

I've gone on skydiving weekends for $2000
I've gone on NY shopping sprees for $2000
Hell in the past I've even bought $2000 of flowers for a dates apartment....

So I'm not adverse to wasting money....and getting the same result......

We had the same experience with gay.com. Sales rep was nice enough... very helpful. She did not understand the PPC or ROI equation at all and it seems they only approach it from a branding perspective.

Yes, they have the traffic, it's mostly bot traffic n their chat rooms.... so they can quote all the impressions they want....but if it ain't clickable humanoids with spendable credit cards.....i don't want 'em.

they also made us buy a local geo spot ad for 90 days. when i told them our business was not about a specific geo area but more in line with a global market, they seemed confused...but insisted that we choose the cities and groupings that would be best for our websites.. and we got a big fat $0 sales for our trouble.

One of the worst ad buys we did last year.

Not something I care to repeat.
