Do you find that surfers know what tgp or mgp mean?
Do you find that surfers know what tgp or mgp mean?
Going back to thinking about my surfer days, I would say yes they do know. I knew anyway. I had a specific preference of surfing the TGPs over the MGPs. I would always search ****** tgp or **** tgp, and always exited out of mgps. So I would say yes you your question. Hope this helps!
I would say the average sufer does not know. I have surfed (and joined) lots of sites over the past few years...and it wasn't until the Gay Phoneix Forum last October that I found out what they ment.
I think more computer savy people, or younger ones might...but those of us 30+ that are not big on computers would probably have no idea.

I believe most surfers to be somewhat naive, still and find the average weekend porn warrior does not (know what our industry acronyms stand for), while the true aficionados do.
Hell, many of our members still think the models (most are well known porn stars) adorning the pages of our mem. Areas are truly as hung as we've made them.
I know we have some mad skills when it comes to chopshopping the hell out of an image, but all one has to do is (with open eyes) LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE FREAKIN THING. Maybe then they'll realize that there is no way in hell that THAT is going be fitting in to any person's orifice!
Not even Mila (the Russian prick cushion).
e-mail/request I recently received:
Hiya!
I have neither a problem, nor a complaint. This is a COMPLIMENT. And a sugestion.
I just LOVE this site! BUT... we could really use more autofellatio pictures. I find it impossible to believe that guys as lucky as these can't/don't suck themselves. If I could, I know I certainly would!
So how about adding a gallery or two (or a hundred!) of self-sucking pictures?
Pleeeeease... and THANKS!
All that I can do is try!
(For giving me something to shoot for; I added one-month of free access.)
Reason I asked was I was using overture's keyword suggestion tool and it shows quite a few searches using the tgp term - correctly - with a niche. But I must say I was surprised at the low amount of total searches performed using the acronymn.
MGP on the other hand brought up a weird assortment of search terms using the mgp letters - some were porn related niches, but a lot weren't.
Given the amount of years we've used tgp sites to push porn sales, I wonder if we've "dropped the ball" so to speak by not "educating" surfers on porn terminology. IE: when we use it in a description, or site title, or blogging, take a minute and translate what the acronymn stands for, instead of assuming everyone KNOWS what it means. This applies to any acronymn in porn of course - not just the tgp/mgp scenario.

here here!
I totally agree with you. It is our industries fault for: 1). getting people used to our bad English; 2). not explaining or listing acronyms/abbreviations; 3). for making people lazy (seems like nobody likes to type out or read the full word any more), and 4). for making every freaking thing youthful (""teen"", ""twink"" etc).
When I was a surfer, I had NO idea that's wht they were called. I used to call them cheap free porn sites!
I didn't know in the beginning. Long before I got into this game when someone mentioned surfers I pictured guys on longboards at the beach.
I know plenty of webmasters that still don't what an MGP and TGP is. Lol. It was a couple years before I knew what a CJ was. And I think it wasn't that long ago when someone told me what and FHG was. Don't give surfers and credit.
People always over estimate what viewers know or can do, I still color code stuff like I was making sites for 5 year olds. If a 5 or 6 year old finds your site hard to work with then your in trouble.
around 1/3 of my porn surfing buddies know what a tgp is. the rest just know they want free porn
and i think educating them could make our lives better but the old school mentality is that we should always mislead or trick the surfers, and that's often the mentality of larger programs to some degree.
yet i notice that whenever i would give very accurate info regarding a site i was promoting, i made more sales, so i left that mentality behind long ago.
if we could teach our surfers how to find exactly what they were looking for, and knowing the names of the types of sites would help them, our traffic would be higher quality.
You know, the only place i have ever really noticed where the site owner tried to edumacate the surfer is one of Michaels, i forget which one but he had this list of things like 'this is what a paysite site' 'this is what an avs is' etc etc.
It actually stands out because until then i had never really seen anyone do that.

Lee
