    Affiliate program sites

Why does just about everyone that has even one single paysite feel the need to have and affiliate program website as well? I see so many sites like genericpornsite.com and you click their 'webmasters' link and you go to genericpornsitecash.com or something like that.

Is that really necessary? If so, why? I can see the need for an affiliate program site if you have multiple paysites in your portfolio that use the same login information. But other than that scenario, it just seems kinda like an ego-stroking exercise. "Me? Oh I'm the owner of genericpornsiteCASH.com."

I think it's ego. I think it makes them seem bigger than they really are.
I don't think it's necessary. I'm perfectly happy to promote a single website that has no cash program. Just give me a ccbill sign up form where I can merge my pre-existing account and I'm thrilled.

In fact I'm less likely to sign up with a site that processes their own stuff and doesn't let the biller pay me. That means I more likely not to get paid.

most people i know are more likely to sign up for a bigger program. many have told me they feel that having a program site shows that the owners are willing to make a larger commitment financially and shows that they have more involvement with their program.

i prefer a program site when i promote a site but it doesn't have to be the $3000 webinc treatment - just something nice and organized that isn't on the surfer domain.

regarding my program, i dunno. it's not like it has to cost much in time or resources to have have one, and i am planning further sites.

I didn't mean any offense Patti. Sometimes I can say things a little harshly. Lol.

But sometimes I wonder about people's motivations. It's like some webmasters (not anyone here of course ) are more eager to have a 'program' and the sites in the portfolio are just a necessary evil. They just want to big-shots but don't want to do the hard work of building and maintaining actual paysites.

you didn't offend me. it just doesn't compute for me. the world is full of strange and pointless things but i'm always amazed to hear a new one.

hmmm... that's a weird sort of sideways logic. owning a program is nothing without the sites/content to back it up. i don't see the prestige of owning a go-nowhere, do-nothing program. almost anyone can pay a designer.

i mean, i know of some programs - mostly larger - that use their programs to bring them income and don't bother to update, but they usually have an actual working plan.

in over 20 years in adult and 10 on the web, i've never talked with anyone who thought simply having a program would make them a respected webmaster. that is SOOO weird

i guess they could really go all the way - start a program without any sites at all. people could sign up and... and... er... what COULD they do after they signed up?

I'm not suggesting that anyone open up a program without sites. That would be the ultimate in DUMB. Lol.

But I'm rather surprised that you can't relate to what I'm saying in my previous post. The phenomenon is quite apparent with (who I assume) are younger webmasters... the GFY-type. The want to be players! Hell, I would be willing to bet that 75% of the posters on GFY don't even have a single site on the web. But they have a 20,000 post count so they can sell their sig. Lol.

Yeah it's funny. I have 3 working pay for porn sites and don't have an affiliate program as I don't feel it's necessary yet.. mayber at 5 sites.. but not yet.

I think you're right about the newer webmasters wanting to be players or possibly established webmasters preparing in advance for when they add new sites to a program that currently only has one site.

Maybe for some it's like buying a 5 bedroom house for 2 people... anticipating the future?

Why not open a affiliate program? Granted I have held back a bit on this, but don’t you get people asking you for one? I know many affiliate programs where their is only one site that converts very well, what’s the difference in having one good site, and programs with many sites that only one of them converts worth a crap. $0.02

Actually, I see your logic, XStr8Guy.

I have definitely talked to people at shows who I got the distinct impression were more focused on image and perception than on their actual program... I think it can manifest a lot of different ways, either having _____cash.com, or bringing a bazillion models to a show, or stretching your budget way beyond in order to make a big impression with webmaster ads or whatever...

I've also heard people talk about how important they think it is to be invited to this party or sit at that table with whomever they perceive to be in the "in" crowd...

I guess it depends on what's important. In the end, having a successful business is what my focus is. To me, that means fostering good relationships with the people I work with in the industry, providing good service to affiliates, having sites that customers will like and want to renew memberships. But to others, being seen as the Big Program or getting to hang out with Somebody Important might be what is important to them... and that's OK too.

    Silly boy

If you think that webmasters page is a true robust affiliate program you have much to learn about the business

OH Max I'm sorry I'm not the one to teach you the difference between an affiliate signup page through a third party processor and a multiple site affiliate program with all the trimings. :moneybags:
