    Vista? Yes or No?

So its out. Microsoft have launched there new scam . The price of vista is a bit much in my opinion, and i wont be buying it at the moment, but might possibly look at a new desktop PC bundled with it in a couple of months.

What are your thoughts? Are you upgrading?

This will make it easy to get a new PC now, I am sure I can work out a good deal by getting both at the same time.

Usually M$'s new OS is bundled with PCs you buy at large electronic stores.

IMHO though Vista does not add much benefit whilst the new requirements on the hardware side are very demanding - I read that on many computer-sites and in magazines. Let alone the installation is a whopping 4 gigabyte.

Actually I'm downloading OpenSuse Live DVD 10.2 right now and want to check it out.

I figure I only use an Browser, Notepad, ftp and an ssh connection it might be worth a try. The tiny bit I do with resizing or cropping graphics can be done in virtually any program. I don't do any video cutting or editing.

    I'll have to see.

But, Basschick - you're right - one day we will be forced to use a different OS than XP (or in Paco'c case NT)

Voted yes since it's almost inevitable... My PC is relatively new, and I got a free upgrade coupon.

But I'm not particularly anxious. First I'm gonna pay attention to tech forums to make sure no major programs I use will be borked by it.

Others recommend installing it on a different drive partition, so you still have XP just in case.

Every time Windows releases a new OS, it is FULL of bugs. I'll wait at least 6 months to try it out before I commit.

I just got a new laptop in November so I will also be holding off. From what I have read so far, Vista is an important upgrade that will let you really take advantage of new technology like multi-core processing, large amounts of RAM, etc, so it will prolly be worth the upgrade. I think I may install it on my old laptop to have a play.

i'll wait till i buy/need a new computer which will probably come "factory-installed" with the most up to date software at the time v.s me trying to "manually" load something into an older system. (interpreted: if it ain't broke , don't fix it!)

I heard Vista is really buggy so I will wait for awhile. I have only heard bad things about it so far.

    Ditto.

General feel im getting from the tech boards is "xp with a new smile".

    Can hardly justify $600-$700...

Microsoft is always unleashing bugs on us. Not sure I'm ready to PAY for getting burned again by glitch-filled software.
