What is a boy to do?

As an affiliate of TLA Video I recently decided to advertise my 'TLA Gay Non-Adult Gay & Lesbian landing page' on Google AdWords. What could be simpler? I thought, "No issues with content here".

Google policy states that: "In order to comply with our policies you must remove all references to 'boys' or other teen porn concepts from your website."

Ah! So the return link to 'Gayboys4fun.co.uk' has to go, it's got the word 'boy' in it. Ah sucks! That's our Company Name - isn't life a bitch?

Fine can't do much about that, how silly I was to think of such a non-representative name for a gay web site - no your right I think not!

Oh and what's this, a dvd advertised on our non-adult landing page named ' Poster Boy'. Huh, that word boy again.

Me thinks promotion on Adwords is never going to happen and I'm right. I'm violating their 'teen porn concept' again, with regards to content.

Now I may be wrong but surely every gay website in the world has the word 'boy' on it in print somewhere. Isn't that what we are 'Gayboys'?

What is a boy to do?

I, too, just started advertising with Google AdWords. I run an adult site that is unusual in that it contains no pornography. We review adult websites, so we naturally picked keywords that had to do with sites that have earned high ratings from us. Keywords like Bel Ami, Falcon Studio, Berlin Male, Latin Boyz, Blake Mason, Next Door Buddies, Jake Cruise, Tyler's Room, and Lucas Entertainment. Sure enough, within days these were all rejected as "Teen Concepts".

A couple of our ad words survived, including the one that has generated the most traffic for us. I'm waking up daily now wondering when they're going to get around to rejecting that one.

Frankly, I don't see how adult sites can manage with Google AdWords. Most all of the phrases that wouldn't be considered "teen concepts" would require an ungodly amount of money to receive a decent placement.

Adwords - sometimes it's truly a mystery to me

It really does get quite confusing at times. Recently I had an advert accepted titled 'Gay Porn Movies' - no problem with porn content then? Well not quite when I decided to add a further advert titled 'Hardcore Gay Video' it was rejected for the words 'porn' and 'hardcore', albeit there was a note saying you could apply for an exemption in certain cases. Confused to say the least I immediately withdrew both adverts for fear of getting banned and replaced the former with an innocuous title advertising 'Gay Videos', this was accepted.

What I can't understand is if they want us to be transparent surley advertising videos as 'porn' is better than just 'gay'. At least if they're listed as hardcore or porn surfers know before they commit to click. Advertising 'Gay Videos' gives the surfer no inkling as to what content they're accessing.

It really is a mystery! Try searching for 'Gay Porn' on Google's Sponsored Links - mmm... now surely that isn't allowed, mmm... odd that's what I've just had rejected, mmm... very confusing.

Oh well back to Adwords Tutorials. You know it makes sense - err.

actually the same issues apply to straight porn and adwords - among other things. we were promoting a handjob site. google doesn't allow the word handjob. so we changed to hand sex. for a while, that worked - but now they don't allow the word sex. and they haven't allowed the word "girl" in some time.

As usual it appears one has to be seen to be doing the respected norm as opposed to true realism.

I think the problem is that corporations such as Google don't keep up with the current trends. People tend to use the word "boy" to mean a lot of different things these days. A cute younger guy anywhere from 18 to 22, or an older boyish guy, some leather submissives identify with the term "boy" regardless of age or gender. In fact, I was at a Rickey Lee Jones concert once where she was talking about hooking up with a cute boy she met hitchhiking and when someone in the audience cheered she said, "yay for boys". People tend to use the term "boy" in a more ironic sense now, not usually meaning a child but a handsome young man.

the gay world sure does use "boy" a lot. Wonder what makes that word any sexier than "man".

I saw her around 2001 or 2002 at the El Rey and she put on an amazing show. I haven't seen her lately. In the late 90's she put out an uncharacteristic electronic CD called Ghostyhead that put her folky song style up against some nice chill-out beats. It's a very quirky and strange album but I really like it. Very dark and trippy.

My partner and I saw her last year in concert in L.A. The girl can still sing and puts on quite a show! She owns a horse ranch in California.

Just re-read my previous post and realized my wording is a trifle unclear. It reads as though we're the ones that presently are dishonest, that was not intended, it's them (they'll know who they are) it applies to. We're the good guys.

The boys (oops... that word boy again) at Google are ok too. In reality I suppose they're only covering their arse.

What's with all this 'Chuck E's in Love'? I just don't get the relevance, enlighten me please.
