    Anyone attending the GAYVN Summit?

**Pardon my post if someone has already started the same!**

Just wondering how many of you will be in San Francisco for the GAYVN's later this month?

I cannot find out who the speakers are or what the program is though... which is a little disturbing.

No, I will not be there.

The registration fee is too high, the timing is wrong -- too close to the Phoenix Forum, too soon after Internext, and too little activity. Oh, and I did I mention the registration fee was too high? Outrageously high? I am not sure who came up with the brilliant idea that $300 for registration is a good idea when there have been so many complaints at $250 but in my opinion, $300 for what is essentially a 48 hour show is stupid high. Obviously, someone at AVN needs to study economics and elasticity of demand.
I have seen a list of people attending, and more are attending the Costa Rica Bash, so having such a small number prepared to attend less than three weeks away does not bode well for the Summit. If you aren't aware, the Costa Rica Bash is a big long plane ride for EVERYBODY, so there are not going to be local people in attendance like a show in San Francisco or LA. I am not going to the Bash either, but it seems that if the Summit can't attract more people to a show right in gay central compared to a high-cost straight party in Central America, they are doing something wrong.

If the GAYVN summit is going to succeed, it needs to be a good value, not exceed the $175 threshold that seems to be an upper limit for price-conscious buyers and it needs to be something that isn't just trying to take way from the success of another show.

    See you at the Forum.

Gee, Chad.... why don't you tell us how you *really* feel :shitpoke:

For the record, AJ and/or I will probably make an appearance at one or more of the events, but it's hard for us to justify spending $300 (or $600) for such a short event with so few people in attendance. And we only live about an hour away, in Sacramento.

I'll be there too. I've always wanted to visit SF, too bad I'll only be there for just a few days. I guess I'll have to make the most of my time there.

    Any suggestions?

we will not be there - fees aside, it sounds like someone needs a new pair of size 14 heels for his/her feet! and they ain't coming from one of our high end Beverly Hills stores neither -

well to tell you the truth. i dont at all beleive in an offline event for an online business (except if you just see it recreational) i have been at internext mor than 3 times... went to several other events... and for my opinion itīs not worth the while at any of those shows. we do ALL of our business online since about 10 years and wether its b2b stuff or consumer porn... its all done in the web.

    but its only my opinion.

Internext is of dubious value these days, but we continue to get enough new business done at Phoenix Forum that usually we pay for all the costs of the show in the first week we're back.

I think that one can be completely successful entirely online... most of our largest affiliates are people we've never met in person... but I also have to say that we have a number of exceptional relationships we've forged with people in the business that we might never have developed if it weren't for the opportunity to hang and talk to people face to face.

The other thing for us is that almost zero business is done on the show floor. It's always at the parties, networking events, dinners, etc that we make the connections and do the deals with people. So you have to approach the shows with a focus on meeting new people and some goals for what you want to accomplish. We've always found that doing that really helps us to ensure that we accomplish what we set out to do.

Now... all that said, a show that costs $300 per person to get in for a day and a half probably isn't going to have many people we don't already have a good relationship with, and so the value of attending is dubious, but that doesn't negate the value of shows in general, at least in my book.
