Keep in mind that personalization is subtle—at first you may not notice any difference. But over time, as the search engine learns your preferences, you'll see it. For example, I (Sep) am an avid Miami Dolphins fan (no joke). Searching for [dolphins] gives me info about my favorite football team, while a marine biologist colleague gets more information about her salt-water friends.

I love it. I love the customizable homepages that you can add components to.

What would be great is if we could just add anything we wanted to the page.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

I did check out the personalized google and put it to use.

I strongly advise against a webmaster using this tool. We need to see what others see, not what Google thinks "I" should see.

Now... how to get rid of the damn thing.

I guess that begs the question... how are we going to see what the surfer sees if everyone is seeing something different? This is going to be a new and exciting (perhaps scary) situation for everyone.

    Excellent point.

People have written about the Google sandbox... perhaps now the surfers are the one's throwing up a fistfull of sand... and not-unlike tarot, the readings will be different for each and every surfer.

I curse myself by not buying stock at $90. Google will soon dominate the world, as MicroSoft once did.

The site says to log out and you'll see normal results.

Of course, I imagine I could always just go to Google in IE and keep my personalized one in Firefox.

And I don't think this is such a bad thing because I think for surfers who look for porn, Google will start presenting them with more porn related results. For a long time it's been a crap shoot trying to get good results for non-sexualized, generic words like "hairy men." Sometimes you show up, sometimes you don't depending on Google's whim of the month.

We'll see how it goes, the way I look at it, we don't have much choice or say in the matter. Google will do what Google does.

How long before some kid logs into his Dad's google account and gets smacked with all porn results for innocent search terms because of this?

    SMILE.

I always try to think as a surfer. TRUE most are not personalized yet. Will they find the off button? Would they wish to turn it off?

I really think this is the next step with search engines and could possibly also mean the end of SEO too!
