SPONSORS: Please consider a mailing to your affiliates to oppose .xxx,

The .xxx proposal is heating up, and ICANN is very carefully looking at how much industry support there is. It is VITAL that we as an industry show our opposition.

We at gaybucks have just sent an email to all of our affiliates asking them to email ICANN in opposition to .xxx. While there are many industry people who read the boards, there are a lot of other affiliates who never do so and may not be aware of the seriousness of the .xxx proposal and the urgent timeframe for responses.

I would encourage every sponsor to email their affiliates and ask them to write to ICANN in opposition. ICANN is very carefully looking at what percentage of the adult community is opposed vs supporting, so our letters will be important in the battle.

Here's the text of what we sent. Please feel free to use it, modify it, change it as needed if you decide to mail to your affiliates.

    -----------------------------

For those of you who are unaware, the .xxx domain proposal is coming up for a vote on March 9th. PLEASE, if you value your business, take 5 or 10 minutes NOW and send a short note opposing .xxx to ICANN at xxx-tld-agreement@icann.org. ICANN cannot approve a request if there is not support from the industry, so hearing from those of us in the industry is absolutely vital to the defeat of this proposal.

We must, as an industry, voice our opposition to .xxx NOW. While ICM, who would run the registry and make millions on it, says it will be voluntary, they are also telling those opposed to porn that .xxx will prevent kids from accessing adult content and help to regulate it. Obviously, those two statements are in opposition to each other.

If passed, .xxx will likely have the effect of creating an adult "ghetto" that would make it easy for cities, states, or countries to restrict or ban access to adult content. Additionally, .xxx domains will cost more than $60 PER YEAR. It is also conceivable that, even if laws do not pass limiting porn to .xxx, Visa could demand that all adult content be served from a .xxx domain.

As for protecting kids from porn, .xxx will do no such thing. Even if adult content is restricted to .xxx, there will still be numerous small, off brand domains from tiny countries that allow adult content, thereby completely defeating the purpose.

The positive goals of .xxx (preventing access by children and those who don't wish to view adult content) can be achieved by a combination of a .kids domain, voluntary listing of adult sites with existing content filters, and parental involvement.

PLEASE, if you care about the future of your business, take 5 minutes and send the email (Once sent, you must also look for the confirmation email and respond to that as well.)

Thanks very much for taking the time to read and respond.

I know you really care about this allot Chip, so I sent a e-mail off myself and will do what I can to get a few others to do the same :morning:

I do like the .kids idea, but taking responsibility for kids is not something many parents want to do now days. Personally I do not think kids under 14 should be allowed online unsupervised.

Thanks Chip I sent an email myself from a couple accounts and sent one out to all our affiliates. I hope .xxx dies forever on March 9th.

    Yikes.

Apparently I copied the ICANN address off an older email I sent them. ICANN has changed the address, and the correct one is

    xxx-icm-agreement@icann.org

    VERY sorry for the confusion!

It is a good idea that one. Also if you run any blogs, you should also post an entry there as well, as this does effect surfers too. It isn't just us who get nailed, but those who are looking for our sites. I have posted an entry on my Gay Persuasions Blog with links to email in.

Quote any part if you want to in your own blogs. It is important to get as many writing in as possible.

I was just going to say the same thing.

If you mail your affiliates this, expect to get a lot of complaints and maybe even some leaving your affiliate program.

    Regards,

    Lee

We haven't had a single complaint, and many emails thanking us for bringing it to their attention.

I agree that affiliates don't need spam, but this is such an important issue I'd have a hard time believing an affilate would get that upset hearing about it.

    Chip,

I wonder if that would be true for the 8th or 9th sponsor to send it out though? Or perhaps the 15th or 16th.

I know id certainly start losing my patience if i was on all of these sponsors lists and received the same message 8 or 9 times within a few days.

    Regards,

    Lee

Ill be blunt, i dont want this crap in my inbox. This isnt aimed at gay bucks as i dont promote you now but tbh all i want in my inbox from a sponsor is..

    1. New sale
    2. News - not dodgy newsletters i didnt suscribe to but real news like a new site or new tour, raised payouts etc
    3. Delayed payouts - full honest reason plus when ill get paid.
    4. Email from a sponsor written for me and sent to me (how can i help you, anything im doing wrong and so on)

Im sure ive missed stuff but you get the idea.

I dont want politics and i dont want spam.
