    Unused Domains?

After looking at all my domains I see many are not being used for anything right now, what should I do with them? Is it worth just opening them just to redirect traffic for SE’s? Or should I think about someday selling a few of them?

Would like to sell frathunk.com I think its a really good name, but not sure if I can get enough money to make it worth selling in my mind.

I saw someone here late last month selling a couple of domains. Why don't you take each of them one by one, put up a page of targeted text and preview pictures, let them sit for a few months and collect some search engine traffic, and then, try and sell them.

I think a domain itself isn't going to be worth a lot unless it's a spectacular domain. But if you've got a domain with some content and it's passed through Google's aging filters, then it's worth something.

But still would that domain not be worth more to just keep then? If I have to start generating traffic for it, would I not make more over lets say 5 years just leaving it alone and getting what SE traffic it can pick up? I could clone some type of site templates for all my unused domains getting them ALL listed I guess, but is this a good use of my time?

I don't know. Just because a site or page is generating a lot of traffic doesn't mean it's making any money.

Obviously the guy who sold those two domains last week wasn't making any money. If he was he would have held onto them.

Traffic is money in the bank, even if the sales numbers don’t look that good I can still use it, OMG in so many ways it would take all day to list. I am really not looking to make “money” from most of these sites I just want TRAFFIC, that I can share with submitters, trade with LL's, filter my own sites though, make friends with, generate e-mail lists, and the list goes on for days.

I just wonder if its worth using them to redirecting traffic, or to create some kinds of tempests for them so the SE’s and viewers for that matter will see them as independent functioning sites. This could take me weeks to work out, so really not to big on the idea of wasting that time on something that is not really worth it.

Do most people just leave these unused domains blank until they find a real use for them?

    Park them at Sedo.

If they have any traffic, they'll make you money.

I have hundreds of domains sat over at Sedo each making me a few bucks every day, thats $ that i wouldnt have gotten for the domains otherwise, after a few months, if you have good traffic levels, you should be able to at least break even on the cost of the domain registration.

The added benefit of parking them at Sedo is that if you decide in a month or two you actually do want to sell them, you will at least be able to show the buyer a 'past history' of traffic levels and, more importantly, earnings.

    Regards,

    Lee

Thax Lee I will check into that, but what I read in-between the lines is that its really not worth to much trouble. I guess I should put this on a FAR back burner right now, the 7$ a year is really not a big deal, and once I open the affiliate program I just might open a page with domains I want to sell. Its not that I think some are not good names, but opening frathunk.com or some of the others are not part of my plan now going forward.

I think you are talking about me?? thumbsup: I sold two domains last month.
And your right I used them up and sell them off every couple of years. I just do TGP and MPG pages with them. I only post a couple of domains a year and change to new one's every year. But I let the domain sit for a year before removing the content and selling the domains. some might say!

Ya this SE optimization is like a new room I just walked into, still not sure how far I can take it. How much traffic from SE’s do you really get? Any suggestions on how to proceed, you can always PM me if you do not want to say something in public

You never know, nowadays SEs are so complicated. Submit 10 domains and 2 of them might get some thousands a day. Even they get some hundreds it is pure SE traffic which will convert great.

I would opt for the one-page, some on-topic text, maybe room for link exchanges (doesn't have to be - you can just link to it from a few of your sites instead), maybe a sample pic or two. Something simple, just to catch SE traffic and either send it to your sponsor or to your other sites. Try to opt for different key phrases on each of them. I try to do that with domains, and yes, I agree, in the long term it's worth more keeping them then selling.

Here’s a few questions that come to mind about all this for me right now. :bomb:

How many domains do you put in play at a time?

How many keywords should I try to pick up per domain?

How do you compile your list of keywords

Other than link exchanges with myself and others what are some of the best ways to improve your ranking?
