Is there too much free porn?

I just got an email from a yahoo group. In the email they are discussing models for paysites and how all models are exploited...blah blah... anyway,
he goes on to say this, which I find particularly validating for the argument that there is simply too much free porn.

This is directly from a sufer who used to belong to a paysite according to the email, but of course he has found free porn so no longer needs to pull out a credit card.

Free porn, in and of itself isnt bad, free porn en mass, of high quality is.

The problem started around the time when programs started shooting exclusive content, because that is what the surfer wanted, then program owners became aware that they needed to offer affiliates a few images of each new shoot/update to promote their sites.

Affiliates noticed this and asked for more, more, more, more...

Affiliate programs gave it out, then affiliates started asking for higher quality, longer movies, more movies, higher quality and again, program owners gave it to them.

If we're [the industry] to get back to the days when 1 free site could net $5000 in a weekend the amount of 'quality' free porn needs to be limited but unfortunately, as soon as 1 sponsor drops the amount of free content they offer, another will increase the amount they offer, starting the vicious cycle all over again

All 100% accurate.

I believe their will come a time, when big companies will club together, and start a movement, or union, on people who are supporting our industry "less for free" and people who are not. If an idea like this took off, it would begin to outcase webmasters and sponsors who really didnt care about the industry, just about themselves.

Perpetuated by the link lists that require 60, 100, 200 "Quality" free pics to be listed in their site. Demand breeds competition, breeds oneupmanship, breeds increasing amounts of free quality porn given away just for listings in exhcange for traffic so we can maniuplate potential customers in our networks to make money with.

Somewhere the model has gone wrong.

Add TGPs to the list to, the demand for more frequently updated free content and higher quality content started at the TGPs, the link lists just followed suit, because for about 6 months, TGPs had a much higher quality free porn selection (and more of it) tha the major link lists did LOL

I guess I'm jaded or old or both. But I couldn't even conceive of getting off to a few naughty images and 10 second video clips. What an awful inconvenience to have to keep clicking around to find the next gallery of a decent guy that I haven't seen a million time already.

For me to be aroused, it has to be the absolutely perfect guy or guys. I need big clear pictures and lengthy high-quality videos. Am I just bored with porn? Or do you think the average surfer thinks clicking around endlessly on a TGP or blog is a good time?

Almost any self-respecting adult webmasters will tell you their is WAY to much free content around while at the same time they are submitting large amounts of free content because basically they have to in order to get traffic. I am as guilty of this as much or even more than some, but thank god I am not just handing out exclusive content like I see many doing now, or starting to give out large free videos “yet”

The only way out as I see it is a Law against any non password protected content that is above the X rating (soft dick only) Just to survive we are cutting or own throats, and playing a one up game with each other to see who can give out the highest and largest amounts of quality content for free. This all is creating a downward spiral for the industry as a whole, but regardless of how many people agree on the dangers of this I see no way this will stop on its own. Someone is always going to keep upping the bar to get more traffic and we will all have to keep chancing them down this road to HELL

it's not just you. the reason people join porn sites is to get away from 10 or 20 second clips and 16 medium sized pics from a set of 120 1024x768 pics.

people have been saying to me for many years there is too much free porn - yet during most of those years, i was making a few thou a month from 1 hour a day of posting.

free content is like the free chocolates that give you at every sees candy or the free samples at trader joe's. sure, i know people who go back and have seconds, thirds and even fourths, but when the rest of us find something we like, we are very apt to buy it.

I think surfers are becoming more jaded too. I think your average porn surfer who has been online for a few years, has probably seen more than a fair share of nude and hardcore pics. I think they're at the point where they need actual movies, especially with so many people being on ADSL/cables and thus being able to download movies more quickly.

So far, I do believe most sponsor, though not all, are not giving away too much free movie content. Most, again, not all, of this will be used at 10-15 secs long clips on freesites and galleries, which I do hope and think is not enough for Mr Surfer for his needs.

The process that others have mentioned here does exist though. A couple of years ago, linklists were asking for up to 1 minute per freesites. We're up to 2 minutes now, and I have a feeling that the day where linklists will try to stand out by accepting only 3 minutes of movies and/or longer clips isn't far. Next, you'll have affiliates going to sponsors, asking for longer clips (or just editing them out)... and the snowball starts rolling again.

They would all know that they're doing more harm than good in the long term, but some are bound to cave in for short term profit. Then it becomes the prisoner's dilemma - you know it's the worst solution for everyone, but if you don't join in, then they get more and you get even less.

As an affiliate, I actually prefer sponsors that put out less free content. I like the ones where you can work with them individually, develop a relationship and then, based on a mutual understanding that neither of you wants to flood the market with free content, they let you use their content.

There is a sponsor, a big one, that has full length episodes in the webmasters area. No warnings, no guidelines. Newbies can just waltz in, download the movies and release huge chunks to the public... :hmm:

Also, regardless of the arms race in which sponsors and affiliates alike are involved, you have the file sharing networks, where people can and do download full length movies. One user buys the subscription and downloads - thousands get it from there... not sure if there's much we can do about this.

Some solution is:
TGP and LL owners must have in rules:
standard gallery of 15 pics can have only 2 pics with cock
No hardcore actions in movie clips.

Maleflixxx is known for NOT giving away much free content, and the free stuff that we offer is mostly dynamic so it changes every day.

This is a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it helps protect our studios content and keeps it from getting posted everywhere for free. On the other hand, I'm constantly asked for FHGs and the like. I'm currently trying to build an FHG product for our affiliates, but how to do it without giving away the farm and having a million mini-maleflixxx's on a million sites, which I doubt our studios would approve of.

I'm all ears for any and all suggestions. This is a tool that I'm actively working to scope out, but I need to hear from you guys to really get it crackin'.

yes, there is too much free porn and as we all already know, much of it is pirated....

the problem is this, anything that is free (20 second clips, full length videos, bad or good quality stuff ) - is all a distraction and, any distraction eats up consumer time

its not about getting off as much as it is saturating the market and blanketing the net with imagery

youtube and other sites are also now attracting regular surfers thus eating into network television profits - and, google and yahoo are partially responsible for the problems journalistic/network TV and print empires such as the LA Times are experiencing.....

there is just too much of everything!

I find it interesting that they will claim that the models are being exploited, blah...blah...blah...

AND YET they in turn exploit the models by finding all the free porn of said models so that they don't have to make the effort to pull out their credit card.

I personally think if your content is original and of good quality then you shouldn't be too worried about the amount of free porn out there. There will be a lot of people who enjoy the free rides, but once they get a taste of your limo, they will not want to lower their standards. So I think once you get them hooked on the real stuff, they should be coming back for more.
