A friend of mine showed me this today and WOW, i am damn impressed.

Anyone got any idea if this is from a program you can buy, or if it is infact a very creative designer.

Its just a flash overlay ad, ARS had a bunch of them a few years back.

There are a couple of companies in the US that use them, I think they're computer publications or business publications... except they are more obtrusive than the one you showed. I am annoyed by them because they cover up the story I'm trying to read and I then have to waste time trying to figure out how to close the damn thing.

The one on the page you pointed to is a lot more "polite" (and probably less effective than the obnoxious ones used in the US)

The link doesn't work for me but I know what you're talking about. One of the straight message boards was using those a few years ago and it pissed me off because I couldn't figure out how to bypass it and read the text.

Actually I am like samebb and curious who is selling such coding. As Gay Bucks CHIP wrote I would use it politely, kind of if only noticed, a special treat revealed. I see potential with that.

I love it - but! Use it differently. The fact that mickey couldnt even see it suggests that it needs pointing out. I agree it needs to be unobtrusive but i think that with a bit of trial and error, you can make it effective without bugging the surfers. Also i think that its a sexy ad when unveiled which has to make it more clickable.

I would use it if i knew how to code it.

We have all sorts of overlay ads on sites here in Israel as well. They're obstrusive, for sure, more than this one, but you get used to it if you really need the site
