Porn Revenues exceed $97 Billion in 2006

Here are some very interesting statistics on porn. This one just blew me away

The pornography industry is larger than the revenues of the top technology companies combined: Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!, Apple, Netflix and EarthLink

and here are some interesting ones....

Every second - $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography
Every second - 28,258 Internet users are viewing pornography
Every second - 372 Internet users are typing adult search terms into search engines

Then what’s the deal? Why is everyone consolidating and others saying the can not make it any more? Something sounds funny with this to me, or are the big porn people that are really making the big money acting like the big oil companies making record profits while at the same time pretending to be damaged in some way so we will be “understanding” :nobody:

$97bn?! Wow. We only make about half that, where's the rest going? :p

AVN came up with a value of $20bn for the US porn industry a couple of years ago... even including the rest of world that's a big leap. US accounts for more than half, I'd have thought.

The gigantic straight companies are just that... gigantic. Some have hundreds of employees. (Granted, if everyone worked hard, they could probably do with a dozen employees what it takes 200 to do, but that's another story.

The gay side of the industry is barely a blip on the radar.

But... I wonder how those dollar figures were tabulated. My guess is it's somebody's extrapolation rather than an actual number, and is probably wildly off.

Our biggest VoD competitor AEBN is MASSIVE, almost certainly the world's biggest online adult company. It's something to take aim at.
