Where do you find staff?

We are looking to add a staffer to our company.... and they need to live somewhere in the New York area.

We've tried craigslist, newspapers, etc.... but we get that "Eeek, NAKED MEN, and YOU are ALL HOMOS" attitude.

So, if any of ya'll can recommend me a NY city area based developer type with a big skill set who won't yell "EEK! Naked Men!" - please IM me!!!!

I put an ad in the spam and graphics sections, but those area's dont see a lot of activity except from outsourcing companies. We want to insource this :humble:

do they have to be in NY to do the job? why not try hiring a remote worker who is already in the industry, either someone from GWW or one of the other boards, or through an offshore worker company.

Write a somewhat longer ad on Craigslist. Explain the job first, then explain that your company is in the adult field and they will be working with explicit materials (if they will) but that your office environment is as professional as any other.

We were having problems like you're describing, but once we described clearly what the job was and that we were a real business, we ended up getting some great applicants (and a few with screws loose, but that's another story...)

I would reccomend finding a local Gay publication and putting an ad in thier classified section.

Pierre - Craigslist is definitely better some places than others. I'm guessing most of the Canadian craiglist sites are still pretty low traffic, while San Francisco is gigantic (it's the original Craigslist and probably close to 10 years old) and many of the other US ones are also pretty big.

We've had some postings get no responses and some get almost a hundred applicants for similar jobs. I would suggest that the way your ad is written makes all the difference in the responses you get.

We have used craigslist and we have used the local gay paper. to be honest we had a great return on the CL ad, the gay paper was ok. But I started asking friends if they knew someone. We had the best luck with asking our friends. Good luck!
