IAMS is one of the foods they make as is eukanuba - those brands aren't on the affected list...

I give my boys the Nutro canned food, but thankfully the dates on the cans don't match the ones in the cupboard.. which was a relief.

And, Yes, Lee, if you feed the IAMS/Eukanuba canned food, they are also recalling their food as a precaution.

Proctor & Gamble announced Friday the recall of specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog wet food products made by Menu Foods but sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands. The recalled products bear the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, P&G said.

Isn't it nice to know that Menu Foods manufactures the crappiest generic food and the best expensive pet food in the same place. Our dogs have recently switched from Iams to Science Diet because of boredom. But now I'll be looking for a new brand that is truly better. Is it too much to expect that because we pay more for pet food that it IS actually better and not JUST marketed as more nutritious?

Anyone have a suggestion for a new brand of food? And can someone tell me why all dog foods has ash(!) as an ingredient? If they require ash in their diet, why don't I ever see them licking my ashtrays?

    HAHAHA

When Liquorice was a puppy she used to steal my Marlboros.

Id wake up some mornings and whole packets of the things would have been chewed to bits with just the butts left intact

The best though was when we woke up one day and couldnt find Garys wallet, we found it eventually, contents intact, chewed to a pulp... Including the $500 or so that was in it

    Regards,

    Lee

    What About Chicken?

With all this talk of some premium brands being made by the same company that makes the cheap brands, and super-premium brands at over a dollar a pound. I wonder how the nutritional benefits would compare if you just bought a $0.50 a pound chicken, dropped it into a pressure cooker, and cooked it till the bones went mushy. Chicken soup for you, chicken for the cat, and if your cat needs any more nutrition, they can just eat grass. (
Presently my cat eats canned low magnesium sophisticat, which I don't think falls under the gravy and bits heading.

It's interesting that this whole story could be summed up as all these companies partnering with the wrong affiliate for their cheap cat food business. Which in the end hurts their reputation.

We've been feeding our pup human grade semi-raw food ever since learning that Iams/Eukanuba, Science Diet/Hills, and of course most of the popular brands names contain indigestible ingredients that over time can kill a dog.

Additionally IAMS allegedly tortures and kill dogs and cats in their "research".

We use Embark by The Honest Kitchen. It really seems to keep him healthy and lean:

We feed our dog Nutro, but the dry. Not the wet.
