    iTunes replacement

iTunes is really starting to piss me off, prolly because I am not accustomed to the way Apple products treat their users like children and make decisions for you for everything. So, since I am on a PC and planning on keeping it that way, can anyone recommend a good iTunes replacement program?

    thanks,
    Luke

    Hi Luke:

I use MediaMonkey at the moment and it's OK. You can do all the regular things as well as `hook' into Amazon to get cover art and check and correct and organise song titles. It only does music though doesn't handle video clips.

I tried Windows Media Player of course but wasn't a huge fan.

I know this isn't what you're looking for, but I heard so much bad stuff about iPods freezing up etc that I bought a Creative: Zen.

But I have to say, I'm not thrilled with their software either. But I love their player.

Thanks Ernie, I will check that one. I downloaded a few from my google searches but nothing really had what I wanted. I am looking for something that will easily rip all my CDs, add the cover artwork plus interact nicer with other programs and stop causing programs to blow up!!!

Michael, I won't be getting a zen cuz love my ipod, its so sexy, thats one good thing I think Apple does is come out with great designs :groovy:

    cheers,
    Luke

I know how you feel. I upgraded to the latest ITunes version... Damn was that a mistake, now I have to restart my computer everytime to open the program because of error messages I receieve... the support on Apple's site sucks and I have read dozens of forums with people having the same issue I am yet everything I try to fix does nothing.

I am afraid of losing all the songs, So I backed them all up, but I think its a format only or Itunes...

I have five iPods, four macs and I've never had a single problem like that.

    I'd never leave iTunes.

Jasun, its different with a Mac, my partner has his iPod hooked into his minimac and its seamless, no problems at all. He is able to rip disks that I can't even get to play in iTunes! But I can't plug into a mac as my iPod is PC formatted.

TheWhack, yeah that last iTunes update took out my ICQ entirely. I had to download a new version to get it to work again. And every time iTunes has an update, it seems it breaks something else. And thanks Apple for forcing a Quicktime install and forcing it as my default web player plus part of my startup group

I use eMusic as well as iTunes to get my music, but they are indie-focused, and don't have a LOT of the major stuff.

I just upgraded to an 80GB iPod, and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm with Jasun on this one: iTunes rocks my world! And I, too, have a PC...

I have a mac, iTunes, and 2 iPods and I've never had a probelm with anyting. They all work efficiently and seamlessly together.

Maybe the issue is the PC version of the iTunes?

I love the mac comercials with that old guy and the cute young actor...The portryal is so perfect!

I don't have a top of the line computer but it usually works pretty well but when I use iTunes I can't be doing anything else or the music studders. And recently I've been trying to edit a bunch of my songs that were imported without titles for some odd reason and after a few dozen everything freezes up and I have to restart the program. It's terribly frustrating.

And I tried emusic and loved the selection but that downloader of theirs didn't work for me and I got no help from them. Well, I shouldn't say no help, I got canned responses to my problems that had nothing to do with my questions and when I tried to explain better what my problems were they just said they couldn't help me.

When you're having a bad day, and you feel that somg good music is the only thing that'll chase your blues away, you'll crank up the iPOD and for a little while your cares will be blown away.

    But then

You're in the middle of your FAVORITE tune ... You're just rocking out ... and your iPod LOCKS UP.

I'm STILL hunting for the perfect substitute! I can't take that. Seriously.

Yeah, but one of the sources of my problems is the fact that my video iPod fell of a table and the hard drive was wrecked!

Anyone know of a reputable place (not Apple) where I can get it fixed.

Don, I think thats the big problem with dealing with anything Apple, you can only get it fixed at an Apple shop.

I downloaded about 10 different iTunes replacements and none of them can fully replace iTunes....wonder if this is why the anti-trust case is happening in Europe right now.

    cheers,
    Luke
