i was having a discussion yesterday with a fellow poster about the number of wome who join gay male sites. he was saying there is a good percentage...i've heard this from other people as well.
anyone else see this?
do you think women are joining gay sites to actually see gay sex or just because of the naked guys? if so, wouldn't that suggest that there is not enough quality 4women porn out there?

Well from my experience with our sites and the time i spent working for other companies I can definitely say there were a good number of women who were members on the gay sites.
At one company, I'd go as far to say 35-40% of the member base were women.
From the clientele I did have contact with, there was a mix of those who said that gay sex was a turn on for them (and some did followup with emails about their fantasies about their own threesomes).
And then there were those women who wanted to see naked men. Of those women I spoke to, I really got the impression that it wasn't a lack of 4women sites, they just didn't know where to find them or that they existed. At which I would point them in that direction.
While the percentages are very different with Stud Money, we do have a fair number of women joining. I haven't heard from all of them, but those I have heard from have been fans of our gay content - Which I always take as the exception to the rule.

Well, as far as TopBucks is concerned, that is why we have Straight links at the bottom of Gay sites and vice versa. We find that not only do women like to view gay porn, but those younger guys in college and those who are just experimenting with their sexuallity, are signing up for these Straight sites and find themselves viewing some of the gay porn as well. This has been a big success with us.
Although, we do get complaints that there are Straight links on our Gay sites...those complaints are shadowed by the complaints of those who are upset if we take them down.

you never know... when we had what seemed to be lots of women joining our shemale site, it turned out what we had was lots of men using their wives' or girlfriends' credit cards - many more than i've seen on straight sites.
also for some reason a lot of men pretend to be women when they join sites. some don't have a fantasy, they just think women will be perceived differently, or that's how it was explained to me.
depending on the site they can make up a fairly good # of the signups and active memberships.
BelAmiOnline.com, for instance, has a very loyal and substantial female membership.

I don't doubt there are plenty of women who join gay sites because they like the idea of looking at naked men and they think there are no 4women sites available.
It's unfortunate that they have such a hard time finding the sites designed for them. Google is not helping at present, but I think a big problem is the number of webmasters who whack together a "for women" site and then only put gay ads on them. Women end up thinking that's all there is.
Which isn't true, of course.
I do believe there are plenty of women who find the idea of gay sex interesting and appealing. Perhaps it's the need to see male tenderness or intimacy that regular porn doesn't necessarily offer... although I must admit it's not always present in gay hardcore pics either. Actually, to go off on a tangent, there's just not enough kissing in gay photos!
Anyway...
The Neilsen Netratings survey from October showed us that 30% of porn surfers are women, which means that women are a lot keener to look at smut than the industry thought. It may be that there will be more women's paysites in the future, although whether they'll be QUALITY is another thing LOL

Thanks Karen & Lee for the interesting thread, I have had the same experience i.e. a good percentage 25-30% women subscribers, I haven't analysed whether this is female's cc's or whether they are actually female but I for one say if they are paying customers let them come and spend their dollars female or otherwise if we are supplying what they want!
