Can You Tell The Difference Between Types Of Posts/Replies?

Im just curious to know if anyone else can tell what type of reply is being on GWW or any other board and, what motivates the responses to 'new' threads?

There are several different 'kinds' of post/replies that i know of..

1) Replies offering help/advice.

For the most part, these are from people who genuinely do want to offer solid help and advice to others, for no gain of their own, just because they are good people.

2) Replies for board/post/sig whoring.

These are actually pretty easy to spot, and i think everyone knows how to identify such posters, typically they are one or two word replies in threads, sometimes on topic, sometimes off topic, they can also be replies that are confrontational for no apparent reason in order to get the posters signature seen.

3) Replies for friends.

These types of post typically happen when a new program, site, product or service is offered, within a minute or two of a new thread being made, the thread will suddenly get replies from people that very rarely post, unless they are sent a link and asked to 'bump' a thread by someone on their ICQ list. The really good thing about these types of poster though is that it lets you see who is in direct contact with who in the industry, what companies do business with each other, have close personal/business ties etc, etc. Typically these types of replies are one or two lines, usually praising the newly launched site, service or product, even if it is crap.

Have i missed any from that list above that you folks think should be added?

Also, can you spot the different types of replies and the reasons behind them when viewing threads across various industry message boards?

Yes, these three types of replies are usually transparent and easy to spot.

Then there is the original post, asking for suggestions/feedback on new paysite tour when tour is already launched and looks great, professional and polished, and, by the way, there is an affiliate program!

Thats a good one, and i should have included that and pure spam posts in my post above too.

I actually like the ones like you mentioned because even we know its a spam post, its actually creative and the poster (in addition to thread readers) can actually get some good advice on how to improve things, especially if the person who made the original thread comes back and replies in it again.

I know that sometimes I like to make a joke or sarcastic comment, often times at the original thread owners cost...especially if I like the person.

Some things are just too good to pass up...

And yes, I think it is fairly easy to spot why some people post.

Then you have the post from the chronic dumbasses, which are either off-topic, hijacking, argumentative, or just plain wrong.

and yet i know people - myself included - who really DID want input about new programs and sites. just because i think i dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's doesn't mean i didn't miss something, and people like bec, michael and jim are quick to spot what was missed...

The newbie A:

Makes a lot of short posts in response to active threads. Mostly of a kiss ass nature. I assume to build up friendships quicker than just posting like normal

The newbie B:

Makes as many posts to as many topics on as many sections as they can in a short amount of time; to build up postcount.
