Do You Think Surfers Actually Care?

When it comes to things like 2257, Acacia, .XXX, stolen content, stolen designs, etc, etc?

I mean, for all intents and purpose, a lot of these issues dont really affect them in any way whatsoever, yet we constantly see webmasters asking others to put 'links' up on their sites about these issues.

I have to admit, i dont think i have ever put a 'link' up for my surfers/members to see what is going on i our area of the adult industry, for a start, there are to many scumbags operating adult websites and i want surfers to stay as far away from these people as possible.

Jut curious as to what your folks thoughts were on this, do you think surfers actually care what goes on behind the scenes in the adult industry or, so long as they get their free porn, do you think they are happy surfing around in ignorance?

    Regards,

    Lee

Myself, I believe that people prefer to have their heads buried in the sand.

While many people are online, they are rather ignorant of all the nuances that go into producing a website, and are only woken up when somehow they become directly effected.

People, surfers, customers, know the differences between right and wrong, but they choose to turn a blind eye to most things, specially when it doesn't truly effect them, or at least they think it doesn't effect them.

Adding links to objectionable sites only makes them run to check it out, and I don't know, i'd rather keep them at my site. :innocent:

I think 99% of them are blissfully unaware of what's going on in the industry and don't care as long as they can get their porn cheap.

I think the only thing that they care about is that their credit card is not used for bad purposes and this is why customers would not deal with shady webside operators.

However since they have no idea what's going on in the industry they don't know how to weed the bad guys out.

If god forbid, a lot of rouge webmasters would put in place fake join forms to harvest CC numbers which would get media attention that whole scenario might change. Lets just hope that will never happen.

I do think at least some surfers are concerned about whether the content on the site is legal (i.e., the models are of age.) When we were testing some new tours, there was one that didn't have a 2257 notice on the main page of the tour when it was first put up (a mistake I don't make any more, obviously) and we got several emails from prospective members saying they hadn't seen the notice and wanted to be sure the content was compliant before joining.

Now there are probably other surfers that LOOK for sites that don't have 2257 notices... but I suspect that the overwhelming majority do care that they aren't looking at illegal content, given the number of busts in recent years.

Other than that, I doubt surfers care very much.

The vast majority don't care, and the small percentage that do aren't gonna do anything about it, it would just be a vague passing interest.

In total agreement with you there.
