Just wondering if anyone is doing text message marketing for their sites and/or is someone has any stats on it? Or sample software packages.
Thanks!

I wouldnt bother, the amount of money you'd make per SMS message vs. the cost of setting everything up would take years for you to break even.
Not to mention how far behind the rest of the world the US is in terms of phone technology, its only the past 12 months where we have all seen txt messaging become 'popular' on TV shows, whereas in places like the UK and Japan, its been in use for well over 8-10 years.

I heard something today that sounded way cool. There is a to send a text message (so called spam) to every phone that is connected to a cell tower. So basiclly, like during rush hour you can send a message to a cell tower in downtown SF and any phone within that area that can get SMS will get your message. No need to know phone numbers or keep a list.
Of course they want to use it on school campus'
But want I wanted to do, and should not be too hard is people that want to know about a producer like Defiant Productions, make our system send them a text message when a new DVD for Defiant is added to our database.
They dont need to purchase the DVD through the phone (althought that would be nice) but at lease it will get them a marketing touch to remember to check out PornTeam.com next time they are in front of a computer.
The problem you are going to have with what you want to do, non of the carriers in the United States at this time WANT porn on their network that i know of so you wouldnt be able to txt porn anyway.
I think it was Verizon who just recently removed all 'adult' related materials from their network.

The only way to make money, true money is through text subscription plans
Where the company sends out a text and unless the end user responds "No" or "Stop" they are signed up to the subscription.
This is in all forms a SCAM but is legal and supported by all phone services.
Supported to the point of when you call to have this removed, they will send you on a month long journey and still not have the issue resolved. Reason... A Portion of the subscription is paid to the cellular company for processing.
I do know of a few class action suits about to open up on this service and would be in the wrong by not stating "Stay away from this option"
The main thing is most people just pay a bill instead of looking at their line items. And some places list their company subscription service as (example) "Mantenance" - a typo to something you would see on a bill.

I'm not saying text porn to a phone. I would send something like:
PornTeam.com New Release:
New From Xtreme Productions: HE MADE ME DO IT!
With 9 of Xtreme's hottest models, it hard to figure out just who made whom do what! With some of the hottest sex yet from Xtreme’s line up of super sexy superstars, this video is sure to be a best seller starring Sean Corwin, Blair Mason and Tyler Berke! Your dvd player might overload with these good boys being made bad!
BUY THE VIDEO
(Maybe a link to the site for web based phones)
in this case I am not a content provider, not selling the video stream to a phone. I'm selling a Hard Product to the consumer.
for my phone (I'm on Sprint) I have been about to send myself a sample text message like above with a link and have been able to purchase the DVD via my phone. Or the customer can come to the site from a PC.
I'm just wondering if someone wrote a program for storing number and sending text updates about their sites.
You dont need to have a nude image in the message, Just sent a quick note to the user like a news headline or something.
I see a TON of these things advertised on TV, and the really evil part is it's apparently *really* popular for them to be advertised on kids networks (like The N or Disney), and it says stuff like "Get a funny joke every day, Text JOKE to xxx-xxxx" and in tiny type at the bottom, often in a transparent font that's on screen for about 1 second, it says that it's $20/month etc.
I would like to see the sleazebags doing that shit caught and extradited to a CIA prison in Turkey for "rendition." That is honestly what I think they deserve for doing that sort of uber sleazy shit to kids.
Have you done a test run yet with say 50 mobile numbers to see what the response is like, without using the system you're asking about?
No not yet. I'm going to be putting a survey togethey this week and ask 20k people on our email list what they thing of it... It isnt hard to do.
It's even hit the level of regular product commercials where the user can "cast a vote" on the new flavor
Another form I'm seeing is from the gameshow concept of Idol or 1 vs 100, the "Can you guss the missing letter?" Text your hangman vote to...
And then there is the Number collection shows where the initial text is to a real company who at the end of the show has a quick blip of "We retain the right to sell contestant information"
But the HUGE players in the game at the moment are the ringtone and wallpaper people running ads at EVERY commercial break on MTV, VH1, BET

Given the loser Bush justice department and FTC, I doubt that these guys will get more than a slap on the wrist. I would really like to see someone go after them on RICO and seize all of their assets because this sort of shit is nothing short of criminal.
I bet they get like .03 cents a text or something..
try more like $9.99 to $49.99 a month billing/rebilling
It's like a paysite service charge but through the phone. And you may get 1 to 50 messages a month (PER SUB)
