    Recip Links - Where?

Ok, so I am interested to know where you guys put your recip links. We are in the process of adding our new paysite and affiliate program to directories and such, and a lot of them require recip buttons on our sites.

I don't want to make our pages all crappy looking with buttons. Do you make separate pages? Or just put them at the bottom? And how can it not look like a banner farm?

So where would you put a recip button on a paysite? And where would you put one on an affiliate program?

For a paysite, id create a seperate page for a recip link, but to be honest, ive never liked promoting sites that have recips on their pages anyway as an affiliate so, unless you can guarantee you will be getting traffic from the site you are putting links up to on your paysite, i really wouldnt bother.

On the program side of things, id create a page like i did with Condom Cash specifically for 'resources' most programs do this nowadays as it keeps the 'meat' of the program site clean from distractions after all, you dont want a potential affiliate hitting your programs index page only to see a recip that interests him/her and them going to that site prior to joining your program

Also, even though you didnt ask for it, one other peice of advice, every 2-3 months check your stats to make sure the sites you recipped are actually sending you traffic, a lot of places send traffic for a few weeks then suddenly stop sending any, just something i have learnt to do over the years

    Regards,

    Lee

I like to see the paysite start page from affiliates to be free of extraneous (ie. revenue losing) links...all the links eventually lead to making a sale for the paysite and affiliate. Use a separate start page for the paysite with reciprocal links if you must have them on a start page. Or sign up only for listings that allow no reciprocal; you do have an affiliate program.

if you're talking paysite, it depends. will your affiliates be sending traffic to http://www.domain.com or to http://www.domain.com/somepage.html ?

for your affiliate program, make a link that says Resources or something like that and link it to the webmaster resource recip page. don't hide the link to the resource page - be fair and keep it as visible as the other links.

    Thanks for the comments.

I didn't want to put any links up on our paysites, for traffic leaks.

I didn't think about making different entry pages though. But I can see that being a pain in the ass.

    a pain in the ass?

just have your affiliates send their traffic direct to the tour and you can put anything you like on the domain index. anyway, it's not really very hard to make a second warning page if you prefer your affiliates send to it - we're talking the time it takes to upload a page.

what i dont get is why so many directories etc keep demanding a grafix link.. sweet jebus a textlink should be enough... way easier to incoroprate into the design and doesnt make the site look totally fubar!

We require recip links to get listed for free in our directory. Generally a links page or a resources page is a good enough to place a link back. The problem is that I hate it when there are a hundred links on that page and ours is number 90.

The way I see things is to pick the top five best gay traffic sources that match your site. They will provide 95% of your traffic anyway. You don't need 100 links.

Sorry if I missed anyone its still early for me.
