Is Office Depot The Only Place To Buy A New PC Without Vista Installed?

So im looking to get another new laptop later this week and so far, the only place i have been able to find that doesnt have machines with Vista pre-installed is Office Depot.

The problem is, their prices suck balls (and not in a good way).

Does anyone else know of a store that sells laptops with XP still?

    Regards,

    Lee

You might pick up a copy of "Computer Shopper" magazine... there are quite a few smaller manufacturers in there that do custom laptops, and I'm sure those guys would be happy to install XP.

Otherwise, I echo the suggestion to talk to Dell.

Well i actually just got back in from BestBuy where i bit the bullet and got a new HP laptop with Vista installed, i figure as MS are going to be phasing out support for XP its as good a time as any to make the switch.

Now to get it setup and put in the extra memory

IMHO there is enough time left to stick to Windows XP... I haven't touched Vista yet but I would love to see it in action some day. Darn, I use the access via ssh way to often these days

Tell us your experiences, please, Lee

Well so far here is a small list of the things im already annoyed at with Vista....

    1) No more 'backgammon' in the 'games' menu, instead its been replaced with chess LOL

    2) The control panel functions have all been renamed so instead of looking for add/remove programs, its now called something stupid like 'personalization'

    3) I cant get the GayWebmasterToolbar to work on this new laptop, although to be fair thats probably an ie7 issue.

    4) I cant figure out how the hell to get rid of this shitty yahoo search box on my taskbar, ive already uninstalled the yahoo toolbar but i still cant figure out how to get rid of this desktop search 'feature'.

    5) Its makes funny noises when it starts/shuts down.

    6) I cant figure out how to stop the 'help' screen starting when i turn the fucking laptop on.

Other than that, its actually pretty nice... So far.

    Regards,

    Lee

I have the Sony VGC-RC110g water cooled desktop. I ordered the dvd from Sony with all the right drivers to make this computer compatible with vista but from what everyone is saying I'm going to wait till SP 2 comes out, or the lab top blows out.

has anyone seen the Price of a battery for a laptop lately> Nuts!

Glad to hear that other XP machines will be available. We had to buy a group of them recently (Circuit City) because our webchat software does not work at all on Vista. I hear that other multi-viewer chat programs are having the same problem.

Windows XP will be supported 'till 2011 or later, I want to say 2014 but I'm can't remember if it got extented that much.

Microsoft will ban channel partners from selling XP by January of 2008 though that includes PC manufacturers and vendors like NewEgg etc who also sell OEM copies of the OS.
