Population rallies in war against Internet porn

Police have received more than 13,000 reports about Internet smut since China launched a campaign to restrict the spread of online pornography on April 12.

The number of reports about pornographic Websites has increased from about 300 to nearly 700 every day. And 31 percent of reports received by police in this period were about pornographic Websites, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

"The fight against pornographic Websites has won wide support from Chinese people," said an MPS official.

A computer teacher, surnamed Jiang, from east Zhejiang Province said: "I'm disgusted by the pornographic material on the Internet, and deeply worried about the impact on children. We really need to crack down on Internet crimes and pornography and create a clean and healthy cyberspace for youngsters."

China has about 123 million Internet users, most of whom are young people.
Wu Heping, spokesman of the MPS, said recently that preliminary statistics show that nearly 80 percent of juvenile delinquents have been lured into crime by Internet content.

"In a high proportion of cheating, rape or robbery cases involving young people, the Internet is a factor," Wu said.

Chinese police last week said they had arrested a 21-year-old student for running five pornographic Websites with 210,000 registered users. Police have closed 1,450 porn Websites online since the launch of the campaign.

I posted this story to find out if you think this is where America is headed with their "war on porn"? Are we just a step away from people not being responsible for what they do because "the devil made me do it" ehem.. I mean porn? Do you think things will end up like this in America again, like prohibition, or are we past this stage?

I doubt it. I mean even those who staunchly preach against porn always seem to get busted being "pornographic", don't they?

I doubt any of those numbers are real. They are probably given to the media to justify someone’s salary.

13000 reports. Over a billion people living in China. That is a lower number per capita than the number of c porn reports to ASACP.

The actual numbers sound large, but with the vast scale of the Chinese population, it really does not amount to much.

the harder (love that word) anti-porn groups push (another good one) to wipe out porn, the more porn becomes desirable among youth -

the deal is this, things that are portrayed as bad, cigarettes, alcohol, piercing, tattoos, barebacking, cock-sucking, whatever... are questioned by youth in terms of "what makes these things so bad?" "why shouldn't I jack-off?" "why shouldn't I suck dick?" "why shouldn't I look at images of guys/gals fucking - what's wrong with that?" -

and the rebels then seek out these "evils" to be "cool" and anti-establishment

I'm not a psychologist but I do remember these basic principals from my former days in Jesuit high schools - and I remember that open dialog with my parents and family did help.... kind of....

Seems like there are always recent postings of one or more of my free pages on Chinese porn forums. They get hundreds of visitors, but it's pretty much just wasted traffic and bandwidth.

Yes I guess they do, but it seems that we are headed towards "book burning" again, with the firing of Imus, Sharpton protesting telling rappers what they can, and can't say now.

The "trend" now in the states seems obviously headed towards censorship and banned words. Once you ban words, it's a slippery slope.

Look at the state of things now. If I post the word ******, I'm automatically a racist, or a bad person right? No matter what context someone utters the word, or even typing it in general discussion, is demonized, right?

Once this happens, as it has in America and other countries, it seems there is no freedom of expression, only freedom of "permitted" expression. Am I missing something here?
