KATHY GRIFFIN'S D-LIST
Recently comedienne Kathy Griffin spoke with "Access Hollywood" to promote the upcoming third season of her reality series, "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" (premiering June 5 on Bravo). Ms.Griffin was accompanied by a Bravo film crew when she hosted the GAYVN Awards in San Francisco a few months ago and "Access Hollywood" asked her about that particular gig:
"What can I say about the gay porn awards? Very moving, very emotional," she said. "You know, it's probably like going to a Christian revival except without the Christians. They honestly treat it like you're getting the Nobel Peace Prize. They cry, and they thank the Lord, and they thank their moms. Then they talk about their penis size, like very matter of fact. You know, like 'thank God for Jesus and my 12 inch cock.' "
Ms. Griffin admits she was thrown by a certain quality the performers shared. "By the way, [they're] the most polite group of guys you'll ever meet," she said. "They're in movies like THE DICKS OF HAZZARD and backstage they're just like, 'hello Ms. Griffin, may I get a photo Ms. Griffin?' I'm like, what kind of porn star are you? Bend over and start waxing your ass or something—make it worth my while."
The "Access Hollywood" interviewer failed to follow up on why Ms. Griffin said the hosting gig was "very moving, very emotional." That's because her father had died one week earlier. He had appeared on her show and was a fan favorite. When she appeared onstage she was greeting by loud cheers, hollering, stamping feet and raucous applause that went on for several minutes. She was visibly moved by the approbation. Let's hope that bit is included on the show. I was there and it was a lovely moment to witness.
